Condolences
David, your in my thoughts as you, siblings and the rest of your family remember John. I remember John as a very mannered, measured and confident man with a sense a humor. Like father like son David. Also I remember very likable. I did not know he was NAVY WWII, wow! I'm sure he will be very much missed.
John was a terrific boss, a good friend, and a tremendous Hawkeye! I'm so very sorry to learn of his passing. Rest in peace John......
Jake: So sorry for your loss. Remember all the good memories you share. Let others help when you need it. Thoughts and prayers to you and your family. Love ya, Lisa
My thoughts and prayers go to the family and friends of John Moore. I worked with Jacklyn for many years and did not have the pleasure of meeting John but as I read about him here I can say that those that did have the pleasure of meeting him their lives were richer for having known him. I hope that the fond memories can help you during this difficult time.
John is and will always be the financial aid icon in Iowa and the Midwest. I will always treasure his smile and sense of humor about our profession and life. John, you will be missed by so many.
I met John at Mercy Hospital in the pulmonary rehab area, huffing and puffing together...he had such a neat sense of humor, rather dry at times that everyone there at those times enjoyed visiting and laughing together. I was also leaving one morning after my session when I chanced upon meeting him leaving the hospital in a wheelchair a few weeks ago and he still remembered my name which was remarkable considering all the people he has met in his life.
May the Lord fill the void in your lives with His comfort and love...
John is an icon in the business of Student Financial Aid. Many years ago, nearly fifty now, I was new to the community and was looking for a mentor. John invited me to his office for a week to introduce the work. I gladly accepted and have forever remembered his invitation, Thanks, John.
John was always a nice guy, in addition to being a good manager. He was very nice to me even when I was a lowly staff member across the street, and was extremely helpful as my career advanced. He knew how to be a student advocate and not stress "the system" too far. RIP John
I am extremely sorry to hear of John's passing. He was one of the most honest and sincere men I have ever had the pleasure of knowing. I wish your family nothing but fond and happy memories. I trust that many will be shared, hopefully making the impact of his loss, somehow be a comforting time as well. He was a great man!
My condolences to the family. John was a fine man and was greatly respected. I had many occasions to connect with him at the University of Iowa, and enjoyed them all.
Mr. Moore was the first Principal at Hoover Elementary here in Iowa City. Everyone liked him. May he rest in peace.
John was a friend of my mom and dad's , Mary and Harold Franklin . Many wonderful memories at our house with John . Good guy who will be missed .On behalf of all my family thoughts and prayers go out his family .
Scott
My thoughts and prayers are with John’s family at this time. I will never forget John, as he was my first civilian boss in the Student Financial Aid Office at the University of Iowa in 1971. I had only been home from Vietnam for 3 days, when I was told about a job opening in the office as a result of a failed job search. I met John, we talked, he shook my hand and I had the job that launched my career in higher education. The cornerstone of my work with students came from John, “when in doubt, side with the student!” John loved students! Not only was he my role model professionally, we were friends as well. Though I haven’t seen him for many years, I will miss him!
