Obituary of Erling A. Anderson

Erling A. Anderson  age 69. Born April 6, 1949, died October 31, 2018. Raised in Milwaukee, Wisconsin and son of Charles and Enid, and brother of David Anderson of Laguna Beach, California.

Erling attended Jamestown College in North Dakota and the University of Wisconsin-Madison. He completed a Ph.D. in clinical psychology at the University of Iowa.  Until his retirement, he was an Associate Professor in the Department of Anesthesiology at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, where he had a brilliant career in cardiovascular research. He was married to Marcia Ward of Iowa City for 19 years. He relocated his parents’ antique restoration and furniture repair business, The Little Shop, from Milwaukee to Iowa City upon his father’s passing, and relocated his mother to Iowa City and cared for her with devotion. Erling bought, remodeled and managed houses in University Heights. He was a talented wood worker with a strong sense of design.

In his final years, he reunited with a Madison-era romance, Linda Materna of Lawrenceville, New Jersey, who will ever love and miss him. Erling was charismatic, brilliant, creative and entrepreneurial, beloved of many who fell under the spell of his energetic, loving, generous and passionate personality. His life force lives on in those who loved him.
