Obituary of Charles A. Zwiener

Charles Almond Zwiener, age 93, died November 7, 2018, peacefully with family present.

He was born on May 14, 1925 in Ortonville, Minnesota. Chuck graduated from Murray High School in St. Paul, Minnesota where he lettered in golf. He enlisted in the US Army-Air Force and served from 1943-1947. He was a radio operator in the B-17 bomber in Europe. Then he graduated from the University of Minnesota and lettered in golf. Chuck went on to teach high school in Ortonville, Minnesota and Anoka, Minnesota where he coached golf and football. He was the Club Pro at Greenhaven Country Club in Anoka.

In 1957 he came to Iowa City to become the Head Golf Coach at the University of Iowa for the 32 years. He influenced and positively affected the lives on many, many students and members of the golf community. Over the years, he had a graduation rate of 100% for members of his teams. Many went on to play on the PGA tour. And many more have lead successful lives.

As a player he shot a 63 at the Ortonville Country Club and a 66 at the Finkbine Golf Course in Iowa City. He had 9 hole in ones but only 7 were properly witnessed. Chuck also was a referee of High School Football for many years.

Chuck is survived by his loving wife of 71 years, Charlotte; his brothers, Bill and Tom Zwiener; his children, Tim, Chris, Dan, Julie, Paul and Laurie as well as 13 grandchildren and 8 Great- Grandchildren.
