Art was born on October 1, 1927, the son of Henry and Lora Fulkerson Wenman in Coralville, Iowa.  He attended school until he enlisted into the Army.

In 1949, he married Gladys “Toots” Cermak.  Together, with a house filled with love, patience and understanding, they raised three children; Tom, Richard and Jane.  The family enjoyed many camping trips, caught too many fish to count, played several board games and enjoyed attending the Iowa State Fair each year.  Gladys passed away after her battle with cancer in 1990.

Art married Hazel Yoder in 1994 and they shared a home filled with love in Riverside, Iowa.  With their union an addition of four more children, that brought hours of joy to Art each day Linda, Larry, Terry and Virginia.  They spent countless hours at the table playing cards, dominoes and Rumikub.  Often having family and friends over to share in the fun and laughter.  If they weren’t playing a game, there was always a puzzle to put together nearby.

From 1952 until 1964, Art owned and operated the Phillips 66 Gas Station on Burlington Street.  In 1965, he became a press operator with Moore Business Forms, where he worked for 25 years, retiring in 1990.

When the Riverside Casino opened up, Art enjoyed the one-armed bandit along with the fellowship of others he met while he was there – from the staff to others that were lucky enough to sit next to him.  With all of the hobbies Art enjoyed throughout his life; cards, horseshoes, baseball, bowling, camping, jigsaw puzzles and the casino.  His true passion was when he was with his family and cheering on the Cubs!

His family includes his wife, Hazel; children, Tom Wenman (Lori), Richard Wenman (Catrina) and Jane Wenman (Pat Rios); step-children, Linda Ruth (Ron), Larry Yoder (Terri), Terry Yoder and Virginia Stumpf (John); grandchildren, Nicholas Busch (April), Danielle Kalinsky (Matthew), Matthew Wenman (Kara), Andrew Wenman and Ben Webber; 11 step-grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren, Camryn and Adrianne Busch, Chava and Harper Kalinsky; 20 step-great grandchildren; sister, Francis “Franny” Rogers and brother-in-law, Joseph Cermak.

Art was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife and his siblings, Lynn Wenman, Robert Wenman, Stasha Jones, Leroy Wenman, Della Hartvigsen, Laverne Flansburg and Jim Wenman.
