Obituary of William K Zinkula

William K. “Bill” Zinkula, 91 longtime resident of Iowa City died Saturday, December 1, 2018, at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City.

Funeral Services will be held at 1:30 pm Wednesday, December 5, 2018, at Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service, with burial to follow at Memory Gardens Cemetery where Military Honors will be provided.  Visitation will be from 12 noon until the services on Wednesday at the funeral home.  In lieu of flowers memorial donations can be made to Iowa City Hospice.  To share a thought, memory or condolence please visit the funeral home website @ www.gayandciha.com.

William Killian Zinkula was born January 27, 1927, in Iowa City the son of George and Mabel (Killian) Zinkula.  Following high school he enlisted in the United States Army during WWII.  Returning from service he married Phyllis Jean Coulter on July 12, 1947, here in Iowa City. For nearly 40 years Bill worked as a painter in the Physical Plant at the University of Iowa.

Bill and Phyllis enjoyed traveling and playing cards especially euchre.  Bill was a member of the VFW, many local bowling leagues over the years, enjoyed woodworking, bird watching and cheering on his Chicago Cubs whether through the radio, tv or best of all in Chicago with other family members.  But most dear to him was his family and friends!

His family includes his children, Steve and his wife, Vicki Zinkula and Jan Zinkula; grandchildren, Lynnette Poula (Mitch), Wendy Bream, Todd Zinkula (Lisa); 6 great-grandchildren and Bill’s sister, Sybil Stafford (John).  Bill was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Phyllis; granddaughter, Lisa Bream and brother, George Zinkula.
