Arlene “Kay” Frantz, 82 longtime resident of Iowa City, died Wednesday, December 5, 2018, at the Pleasantview Home in Kalona from complications related to Alzheimers.

Memorial Mass will be held at 11am Saturday, December 8, 2018, at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Iowa City.  In lieu of a visitation, a reception at the church will follow for family and friends to offer condolences/reminisce about Kays life starting around 12pm. Burial will be held at a later date. Memorial donations can be made in her memory to Iowa City Hospice or Eastern Iowa Chapter of the Alzheimer’s Foundation. To share a thought, memory or condolence with Kay’s family please visit the funeral home website @ www.gayandciha.com.

Kay was born November 3, 1936, in Iowa City the daughter of Cletus and Kathryn (Kennedy) Bradley.  She attended St. Patrick’s elementary school in Iowa City,  then junior and senior high school at Immaculate Conception School in Cedar Rapids.  Following graduation she graduated from Paris Academy of Beauty Culture in Cedar Rapids.  This began a long career as a beautician, and a lifelong path to many dear friends.  Kay married her high school sweetheart & love of her life, James A. Frantz on February 7th, 1959 at the Immaculate Conception Church in Cedar Rapids. She enjoyed camping, fishing, traveling, gardening, collecting antiques, baby sitting grandkids and was a lifetime member to Beta Sigma Phi.

However Kay’s greatest joy was her family, nothing compared to being a Wife, Mother and Grandmother. Even in her late stages of Alzheimers her few remaining words were still about her family. She will be deeply missed by her family that loved her so much.

Kay’s family would like to thank the wonderful staff at Pleasantview that loved her and took such good care of her during this time.  Also for the comfort & care that Iowa City Hospice provided in the final weeks.

Her family includes her husband, James; their three children, Kami Lanigan (Tom), Bradley Frantz, and Kara Frantz (Beth Lainson); grandchildren, Katy Schwering (John), Alli Hora (Greg Darrah), John Hora (Lindsey), Jake Hora (Ashley Lappe), Amanda Frantz, James Frantz , Derek Lanigan (Maggie) and Brooke Denhartog (Tyler); great-grandchildren, Bo, Mila, Marley, Madison, Sydney, Aiden, Breckin, and Hudsin.
