Obituary of Thelma I. Frauenholtz

Thelma I. Frauenholtz, 85 of rural West Branch died Thursday, May 16, 2019, at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City under the compassionate care of Hospice.

Funeral services will be held at 11am Thursday, May 23, 2019, at Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service with burial to follow at Memory Gardens Cemetery.  Visitation will be from 4 to 7 pm Wednesday at the funeral home.  Memorial donations can be made in Thelma’s memory to Iowa City Hospice.  To share a thought, memory or condolence, please visit the funeral home website @ www.gayandciha.com.

Thelma Ilene Westlake was born July 22, 1933, the daughter of Earl and Delta (Mink) Westlake.  She attended school in Lone Tree where she graduated from the high school. She married Donald L. Frauenholtz on October 23, 1953, in Lone Tree.  The couple and family lived a short time in Tiffin before moving to their farm near West Branch in 1960.  Thelma had worked over the years for Seabury & Smith and ACT.  Thelma was active in the West Branch United Methodist Church, High Point Church and in years past she and Don enjoyed square dancing all over eastern Iowa.  She was a farmwife, mother and grandmother, all titles that she cherished dearly.

Her family includes her husband, Donald; their children, Darwin Frauenholtz,  Ylonda Gallahan (Mark), and Darren Frauenholtz (Krista); 6 grandchildren, Zackary, Breck, Elise, Sam, Melehia and Lindsey; brother, James Westlake (Nancy); and her sister, Juanita Forbes.

Thelma was preceded in death by her parents, and siblings, Margaret Hicok, Alvin “Tiny” Westlake, Mary Keever, and Helen Westlake.
