Obituary of Connie VanSant
Carlene “Connie” Althea (Hohenshell) VanSant was born November 30, 1921, in North English, Iowa, to Otha and Martha (Feldman) Hohenshell. She had two brothers, Lewis and Donald, and three brothers, Lavern, Richard and Turl; all deceased.
Connie graduated from North English High School; married Hugo Schoenfelder, and moved to Marengo, Iowa. They had two children; Joyce (Schoenfelder) Pundt;, and James Schoenfelder. Connie later married Tom Large in Denver, Colorado, on March 22, 1973, until his death on April 24, 1986.
Connie then met and married J.D. VanSant in Mesa, Arizona. They were married 17 years, until his death on September 16, 2004. They both loved to travel.
Connie is survived by two children, Joyce (Schoenfelder) Pundt and James Schoenfelder. Five grandchildren, Vincent, Jennifer, and Heather Pundt; and Shannon (Schoenfelder) Stefan, and Erin (Schoenfelder) Hornung. Three step-children, Jane, Mitzi, and J. Paul VanSant.
Connie enjoyed traveling, especially on cruise ships. She was also talented in arts and crafts. For many years, she was active in a charitable Red Hat Society, that aided troubled teens.
