Kathrine Annette Murray was born on January 10, 1953, in Forest City, Iowa, the daughter of Dale and Helene (Harbison) Maley. She graduated from Klemme High School in Klemme, Iowa and studied at NIACC in Mason City.
On October 7, 1972, she was united in marriage with Thomas Murray in Garner, Iowa. To this union three children were born. The couple made their home in Iowa City, Iowa
Kathy worked for 25 years at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in the Iowa Bone Marrow Donor Program. She retired as the office manager. Kathy thoroughly enjoyed her work and colleagues at the University. She had the opportunity to travel to many different parts of the world, from Ireland to Germany, delivering and receiving bone marrow for donors.
In her free time, Kathy enjoyed gardening, cheering on soccer and the Iowa Hawkeyes. Her green thumb allowed for plenty of vegetables for canning and even providing all the fresh flowers for many work events including her son’s wedding. Kathy loved being outdoors and tending to the yard. Perhaps one of her greatest joys was the time spent with her children and grandchildren.
Kathy is survived by her husband Tom of Iowa City; her three children and six grandchildren; Angie (Dirck) Milder of Iowa City, and their children, Tristan Clements, Cierra Milder and Barrett Milder, Adam (Liz Wyman) Murray of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and their son Jack Murray, Wade (Lauren Michener) Murray of Hoboken, New Jersey and their children, Holden and Cash Michener; her mother, Helene Maley of Altoona, Iowa; one sister, Julie (Kevin) Larkin of Grinnell, Iowa.
She was preceded in death by her father, Dale Maley and one brother, Brian Maley.
