Obituary of Joan Marie Williams
Joan M. Williams, age 92 lifetime resident of Iowa City died Thursday, November 7, 2019.
Visitation will be from 9 am till 11am Tuesday, November 12, 2019, at Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service immediately followed by graveside services at Memory Gardens Cemetery in Iowa City. In lieu of flowers memorial donations can be made in her memory to the Johnson County Humane Society. Joan Marie Byers was born January 25, 1927, in Iowa City the daughter of John T. and Berniece (Lumsden) Byers. She attended and graduated from St. Patrick’s High School. She was united in marriage to Donald E. Williams in 1949 in Omaha, NE. She cherished being able to raise their three sons and also the time spent in the Wig Department at Younkers for many years assisting many women of this area. She was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church and the American Legion Auxiliary. In her youth she sang in a band, and her love of music spanned her entire life. She and Don enjoyed many vacations around the country, with Las Vegas being one of their favorite destinations. Joan was a social butterfly, always ready to meet and greet her old friends and meet new ones.
Her family includes her three sons and their wives, Donald and Sandy Williams, Dan and Kathy Williams, and David Williams and Maureen Doyle; 4 grandchildren, Jamie, Katie, Jillian and Amanda; 6 great-grandchildren, Alice, Jane, Ellie, Sydney, Tyler, and Alyssa; Joan’s sister-in-law, Donna Byers and Donna’s daughter, Terry who was always very close to Joan!
Joan was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Don; brothers, John and Bill Byers and her sister, Shirley Crew.
