Obituary of Peter Van Beek

Peter Joel Van Beek, (56) known best by family and friends as “P.J.” unexpectedly passed away Sunday, November 24th, 2019.

P.J. was born July 2nd, 1963 to Peter and Jean Van Beek, in Iowa City, Iowa.  He grew up in the Johnson County area making many lifelong friends along the way. He loved all types of music and taught himself how to play the guitar, he always played to his own beat.  P.J. enjoyed traveling whether it was a work trip out of state or a country road, he always remembered every road he traveled in life. He had an extremely sharp memory and loved to tell many stories, even the embarrassing ones.

You could find PJ keeping his many friends company on a barstool, wearing his cowboy boots and pulling pull tabs. He always had a ball cap on. Pete was a solid friend to many and would do anything to help those that he loved. Even in his passing he has made a huge impact by contributing to the Iowa Donor Network.

Pete is survived by his sister Amy, (Scott) Heumphreus of Coralville. His son Dalton (DeeDee) Van Beek of Iowa City and daughter Breyanne Duffy of Tiffin. Grandpa to Athena, Taeshauna, Carmine and Asher. Uncle to Curtis, Shelby and Riley and a great uncle to Wrenley. As well as several aunts, uncles, cousins and lifetime friends.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents Stanley and Irene Webster of Oxford. His mother Jean of Coralville. His father, Peter C. of Alabama, an infant brother, Jody and his nephew Morgan.

Celebration of Life services will be held on Sunday, December 8th from 1 to 5 pm at the Coralville American Legion. A memorial fund has been established at Hills Bank & Trust in Coralville in his memory.  We appreciate your thoughts and prayers at this difficult time.
