David Neal Slade was born January 26, 1943, in Iowa City the son of George and Edith (Teague) Slade. David has spent his entire life in the North Liberty area, a local icon indeed. You would see him around town on his three wheel bicycle (his fourth one at the time of his death) clearing the streets of cans, sharing his wave and his very unique smile. He loved the parades, always as an entrant with his bike decorated to the tilt. When the trains use to go through town with passenger cars, David would be on the road near the tracks waving at the passengers as they went by, always a special spot for trains in David’s heart. When they were fire calls, David was down at the fire station keeping things safe and orderly while the firefighters were out. He loved the Iowa Hawkeyes, Disneyland and most of all his family and the many friends he made over the years. He didn’t say much, but you knew in his look, that he liked you!
His family includes his four living siblings, Richard Slade, Bob Slade (Sandy), Mike Slade and Shirley Slade; 2 sisters-in-law; Delores Slade and Anita Slade; numerous other family members and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, siblings, Kenny, Russell, Raymond, Billy, Donald “Tucker”, and a nephew, Steve.
In honor of David’s passion for the Iowa Hawkeyes, everyone is encouraged to wear black and gold on Friday at his service, thank you.
