Larry Thomas Sovereign was born on August 3, 1937, in Boone, Iowa, the son of George M. and Chloris M. (Flannery) Sovereign. He graduated from high school in 1955 and went out west to work in San Francisco for a short time. Larry enlisted in the United States Army on January 27, 1958 and was honorably discharged on November 5, 1960. Larry then attended Des Moines Area Community College and received his Associate's Degree and was hired by AT&T where he worked for 30 years until his retirement.
On July 29, 1967, he was united in marriage with Wonda L. Steinmeyer at Sacred Heart Church in Boone, Iowa and raised four wonderful children together. The couple made their home in Boone until November of 1975 when they moved to Iowa City.
