Condolences
Carla,
I am saddened to hear of Darryl's passing and my heart hurts for you and your family! I will never forget Darryl and everything he taught me during my time with the "Murray" lab! As Rita Shiang mentioned, he was a special person and I am reminded of the fun times we had in the lab, especially playing softball in the summer (The Base Pairs did rule!). These are memories that I will have for a lifetime. I always appreciated Darryl and his ability to take a complex problem and simplify it and be able to explain it in a way that made sense. I'm honored to have known him. I know he was incredibly proud of his kids and of you.
You and your family are in my heart and thoughts as you move through this difficult time.
I love you my friend.

Hi Carla,
Darryl was a great guy. He was incredibly helpful while we were both graduate students. As we both worked late at night, Darryl would often offer to take me home in his way cool red Pontiac Fiero. He was an integral part of the Sheffield Lab and his contributions will be missed. I fondly recall playing softball with him on the Perkin Elmer Express team in Iowa City, and being jealous that he got to leave our -40F winters briefly to visit his family in Hawaii.
He leaves a legacy excellent research, and terrific and smart children.
Best Regards,
Scott Stadler
Carla, I can't believe that Darryl is gone. He was definitely my partner in crime in the Murray lab and graduate school would not have been the same without him. We helped each other get through and he was a big part of my Iowa family. Even though I didn't get to see him that often, I always felt we picked up right where we left off when I did. I'm going to miss him terribly. My thoughts go out to you and your kids as well as his entire family. Please let us know if there is anything we can do during this time. All our love, Rita and Andy.
My prayers are condolences are sent to my cousin Carla and their two kids. May God be with you during this time. I have many memories of Darryl at family reunions and he was always kind, quiet, but always flashed a smile right back to me. From my family to yours, we are so sorry for your loss. Love, Liz, Greg and family.
Darryl worked in the lab next to ours. He was a shy humble person who was always polite and friendly. He was never rude, angry or bitter. We used to chuckle that on the weekends it was us and Darryl next door since the light was always on and his car was in the parking lot. What people might not realize was that he was a intelligent human being and well published in his field. We were lucky to have him in our lives and we didn't go to lab today because this tragedy is still raw and that room will most likely be dark. All of us want to express our condolences to the Nishimura family. You were taken way too soon Darryl. We are all the sadder for it.
Wow, Carla, I am so sorry to read this! I never knew Darryl, but knew people who did. Most of all I have the pleasure of knowing you. Know that I care and that I’m thinking about you in these stressful times. Take the best of care and keep those warm memories close.
My heart breaks for you all and there are no words, except that May God's Love, Strength and Peace continue to surround you all as you move forward.
I will always remember meeting Darryl at night on my way home as he did his power walking through the building, and we always did a quick smile and wave to each other....even I could not walk that fast! He Loved his family and always wanted the best for them, and he was dedicated to whatever he was doing.
We will be lifting you all in prayers. Love, Kathy and Rick
