Hruby family, our condolences to all of you. I remember Ray while growing up in Oxford and attending Methodist Church. He always had a big smile and a friendly word. Prayers of peace to you all. Cindy, Dave and Josh Downes
I'm so sad and sorry to learn about Ray's death. When I was in college at UI in the early 90's, I really wanted to learn how to hunt deer with a bow and arrow. I bought a plat book and went up to Ray's house and asked him if I could hunt a deer on his property. I was thrilled that he said yes and I spent more than a few weeks hunting next to Kent Park.
Ray wasn't just a farmer though--he easily became a friend. I loved talking to him and helped out with whatever I could do on the farm in exchange for his generous tree-stand location. We built horse doors, did some other improvements, and I even tried spending a day spreading manure. Of course I got his tractor stuck and covered in explosive manure and we broke at least one log chain trying to get that old tractor out.
So I am deeply sorry for your loss and can testify what a great man Ray was. While my friendship was decades ago, I have nothing but the fondest memories of him as a great person.
Dear Shirley, Mona, Moira and Jill.
