Bob was born on August 3rd, 1948 to Leonard and Arietta (Trent) Curry. He was raised on a farm near Williamsburg with 3 brothers and a sister. Bob attended Williamsburg community schools. In high school, he discovered 2 of his great loves: wrestling and Susan Flanagan.
Bob and Sue were married on December 10th, 1966 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Williamsburg, where Bob later served on the Parish Council. Within a few years they purchased a small home 3 miles east of Williamsburg, settled in, and raised 4 children.
Through the years Bob became a masterful mason and successful businessman. He owned and operated Curry Masonry for 25 years. Throughout the years, he applied his pursuit of perfection not only to his craft, but to building lifelong relationships.
Bob was blessed with a quick wit and athletic ability. He was a state qualifier twice in wrestling, placing 3rd in 1965, his junior year. Bob won the championship in the World Horseshoe Tournament in 2010. He was driven to be the best. With that said, whether he was beating you in cards, ping pong or pool, his good humor and kindness had you looking forward to your next loss to him.
What Bob will be remembered for the most is the amazing way he took care of his family and friends. He could be relied on to help with a huge project, to give you words of encouragement, or to simply lay his hand on your shoulder and gently move you forward. We know we are not mourning alone.
The family would like to extend their thanks to the Holden Comprehensive Cancer Center, the UIHC staff, and Iowa City Hospice.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers and partners-in-business-and-shenanigans, Dave and Ken Curry, his sister-in-law Marilyn Curry Dolder, and his beloved nephew Sam Curry.
Those left to carry on include his wife of 53 years Sue Curry; his daughter Brenda Martzke and her husband Celon with their kids Isaac, Aaron and Miriam; his daughter Aileen Curry and Steve Harney, and their children Jake, Kelsey and Lindsey Harney; his daughter Michelle Bacon Curry and her children Jack, Joe, and Bobby Bacon; his son Aaron and his wife Hanorah, and their children Clark, Charles, and Peter; his sister Shirley Schmidt and her husband Vern; his brother Tom Curry and his wife Maggie; sister-in-law Carol Curry; his brother-in-law Harry Dolder and many nephews, nieces, and cousins.
