Obituary of Melissa Ann Lesnet

Melissa Ann “Missy” Lesnet, 57 of Cedar Rapids died Wednesday, July 1, 2020, at her home of cancer. Melissa Ann Barkalow was born August 31, 1962, in Iowa City the daughter of Ronald and Shirley Barkalow. She attended schools in the Iowa City Community School District graduating from City High School. She has worked hard all her working career in custodial services. First for Premier Cleaning Services and then for the University of Iowa. Melissa's children would like to give a special thank you to Missy's best friend, caretaker, nurse, and love of her life Steven Klein. Thank you for being by our mom's side through every good and bad day and taking care of her every need through this horrible battle. We couldn't thank you enough for all you have done for her and because of you our mother had the best quality of life she could have had during this. She couldn't have found a better companion to spend the rest of her life with. Thank You. Melissa’s family includes her longtime companion, Steven Klein; three daughters, Molly Lesnet, Chelsea Lesnet and Haley Peters; five grandchildren, Brody, Jocelyn, Kyla, Charlotte and Amelia; her mother, Shirley Barkalow; siblings, Jon Barkalow, Neil Barkalow, Tracy Barkalow, Troy Barkalow, Justin Barkalow, and Kristine Irwin. She was preceded in death by her father, Ronald Barkalow and her grandmother, Elsie Barkalow. Missy was a wild soul with a big heart, she always spoke her mind and was down to do anything. If you knew Missy you knew there was never a dull moment and she was always the life of the party. She was loved by many and had many close friends she loved. Most of all Missy loved her grandchildren and would often say they made life worth living. A celebration of Life will be held from Noon - 4 pm, on Saturday, July 18, 2020, at the Coralville American Legion - 901 2nd Street, Coralville, Iowa.
