Condolences
So sorry to hear about the loss of Merle. He was a special man, he always had a kind word and a smile for me when I worked at the Hawk-I truck stop - many years ago. Merle and Jean were two of the most humble and kind people. Thank you Melody for sharing them with me. Sincere condolences to Vickie and Melody and their families on the loss of Merle. I wear a mask in his honor. Barbara Lamos
Keeping you all in my heart during this difficult time. Your dad was so sweet. He will be missed.
Melody and family- I was saddened to hear about Merle’s death and I am thinking of all of you! Your dad was the brightest spot while I worked as a waitress at the Hawk-I truck stop while in college. I was a dorky, awkward waitress and Merle was ALWAYS kind, cheerful, and supportive. I served him many cups of coffee to him and he was like a 2nd dad! He always made me feel like I could do anything! I will proudly wear a mask to honor him! Hoping you all find comfort in his well-lived life! Sending ❤️ And ☮️ - Lolly Yager
Vickie and Melody, I am so very sorry to hear of your Dad’s passing. I have many, many great childhood memories of our families doing things together. The card parties, our moms sitting at the kitchen table having coffee, mushroom hunting, Melody and David getting into your mom’s sewing machine oil and getting it all over, your beloved Boston terriers, riding with your dad to take cattle to the sale barn then going for breakfast. Such Great memories! Your families door was always open for a visit anytime. Love you both, and know you are in my thoughts and prayer always.
I was sorry to read that Merle has passed. I worked at Fairview Golf Course in Iowa City for 10 years, with my parents, Orrie and Norma Rew. Your parents were two of my very favorite regulars there. My parents played golf with them as well, though my mom didn't play often.
Your parents could brighten any day, and I can still hear your dad call out my name, as he did everytime he walked into the clubhouse. His laugh was contagious and always made me smile. My parents were always happy to count them as friends, as was I.
My thoughts and prayers are with you all.
I was so very sorry to hear about your father's passing, Melody and Vickie. Merle was such a bright light in our world and in many people's lives. I have the fondest memories of him. I've always thought your dad was a wonderful and cool dad. He was friendly, caring, fun, made me and others always feel welcome and extra special. What a kind and good man your father was. He helped raise two beautiful, caring and strong women. I could always feel the love he had for his family when I was over at your house on Westgate Circle. Sending my love to all of you. Wishing you peace and comfort always, but especially during this sad time.

To Vickie and Melody, I did not know your dad very well but I know he and your mom raised two wonderful kids. Loosing your last parent is very difficult and I am sorry. Somehow loosing him to COVID seems to make it even worse.
May you smile at your wonderful memories and when you play Cribbage, remember him with love. Sheryl Salterberg Griese
Growing up, Merle, Clyde and Mildred and the girls we’re our neighbors. I loved hanging out at the stockyards and riding around with them as a young lad. Merle, better known to me as “Deek”, and Clyde thought it would be a real good idea if I were to start raising hogs in Mom and Dad‘s basement. I scrounged around, got some boards and build a hog pen to start raising hogs. At some point, it became pretty obvious that Merle and Clyde thought raising hogs in Mom and Dad‘s basement was a lot better idea than Mom and Dad did. My first business venture came to a screeching halt.
Our family lived across Westgate Circle from the Myers's for years. Always the most gracious and friendly people. Remember him well, always had a smile on his face. Jean was a favorite of my mother, Mary Irwin. Thinking of you all.
