Emma was a student in my chemistry class at City High School. She brought joy and positivity to my classroom with her wonderful and pleasant personality. I will always remember and admire Emma for having a smile on her face in my classroom, in the hallway, on stage at a band concert, or even on the volleyball court. I am so sorry for your loss. Please know you are in my thoughts and prayers. Dr. Schnoebelen

Emma was such a kind girl, I remember how much fun we had during our Longfellow days when we did the Here Lies Link Book Club together. I remember in the book club she was always making everyone laugh and I loved how s

I'm thinking of you guys.

Raymond. I am so sorry for your lose. I know Emma wants you to smile again. Emma was such a sweet girl. Loved knowing her and Raymond thru the Longfellow years. Find peace in knowing that Emma was so loved and started a legacy that hope all to follow. To us it was to soon that God called Emma home. He needed a very special angel one that he calls Emma. We remember Emma’s smiling face and hugs when greeting us each year at the family reunion in Grand Mound. She was excited to be there and we enjoyed hearing about what was happening in her life.
While Emma’s life on earth was short, she was a very accomplished young woman !
Prayerfully we say “Emma was here with us, she was loved and her life made a difference!”
Carmen, Joe, and Raymond - May God Bless you and give you peace & comfort in the days ahead.
may Emma Rest In Peace, Amen.
Love,
Uncle Mike & Aunt Nancy
Emma was one of the kindest people I had ever met. She had a heart of gold. Though we weren’t close every interaction with her was full of smiles and laughter! She was beautiful, smart, and so talented! She will be missed more than ever...
Emma had a smile that lit up every room she walked into. Her joy for life will forever live in all our hearts. Her unmatched love for those around her was is something that caused her to stand out among the rest. She would always bring a positive energy to the clubs we were both involved in, always making sure everyone felt included and empowered to share their views. Emma I promise you we will continue to live the legacy you would have left for us, one full of compassion for others, an uplifting attitude, and most of all that beautiful smile that made everyone better. A mark of a great individual is someone who is able make those around them better people, and that is one thing that everyone knew Emma possessed.
Love you always Emma! Fly high like we all know you will
To the Nugent family,
We are deeply saddened by the passing of Emma and we pray for her family and all those who loved her. At St Mark's in Iowa City, we had the wonderful privilege of meeting and getting to know Emma as our daughter participated in Youth Group activities. May the pain and sorrow be met with love from family, friends, the community, and from God, and may that love be sustained and keep you strong.
Sincerely, Sean, Kristi, Adriana, and Jude McCall
I only met Emma once, but I remember being very impressed and thinking that the world was a better place for her being in it. So was shocked and saddened to see that she passed away. I know I can't imagine the sorrow you're going through, but you have my deepest sympathy and support, and my prayers that God will care for Emma and give comfort to you.

Emma was such a wonderful girl and an amazing friend to Francesca. I cannot express with words how much Emma meant to Francesca and to our entire family. I already miss seeing them smiling together. My deepest condolences.
-Wes
Emma was the first "big kid" we knew at Longfellow as one of Avery's first book buddies. We've watched her grow ever since then--in Longfellow talent shows, softball, volleyball, and then suddenly she was all grown up, passing out programs at the Jr. High choir concerts! She was someone I always said hi to over the years and I was proud of how she'd blossomed.
Carmen, Joe, and Ray, we are so sad for this unbearable loss. We will remember Emma as an inspiration as Avery starts high school. May she turn out as lovely and well-regarded as Emma.
~Carly, Dan, Avery and Saylor Shaw
You are all in our thoughts and prayers. We are praying for peace and comfort for your family. We did make a donation to Mountain T.O.P. Missions in Emma's Memory.
Love Doug and Jody Albee
Our hearts are with you and all your family, Joe. Reading so many of the personal stories about Emma is a tribute to her and her parents.
Carmen, Joe and Raymond,
Our hearts are broken for you and we pray you can somehow feel the comfort and peace that can only come from God.
I want you to know Emma has always been one of my favorites. I honestly found myself sitting by her during Connor’s and Raymond’s baseball games because I thought she was always so sweet, always smiling, positive, kind, caring and made Ava feel so included and gave her and I such wonderful advice about High School, sports, band etc. She will honestly always be one of my favorites. She was and is a bright light to all!
Praying for you all.... Sara, Alan, Ava and Connor Cross
My condolences to the family and friends of Emma. She was one of my well-remembered, personable and accomplished photography students in College for Kids in 2015. A true shining star.
Joe, Carmen, and Raymond-
I have been thinking of your family constantly this week. This memorial is so beautiful. Emma is an incredibly accomplished, smart, kind, and beautiful girl. I am here for anything that is needed and my heart is with you all.

Carmen, Joe, and Raymond - We are just heartbroken for your loss of sweet Emma. Every single time Scott and I saw her we mentioned how sweet and smiley she always was. Thinking of you, Sarah, Scott, Evan, and Miles Hansen
Emma was an active participant in the youth Sunday morning class at St Marks since her Jr High days. Her involvement was usually a quiet deeply thoughtful presence that enlivened the group. We were enriched by her presence and thanks to the Spirit of God, Emma's spirit is a lasting gift.
Bob Hoover, a former teacher for the class

We are so sad to hear of the passing of Emma. She was such a delightful, witty and pleasant person to have had as our guest while hosting the youth from the church. Carmen, Joe, and Ray: Bruce and I are so very sorry that you have lost Emma. I have such fond memories of her as a neighbor during the early years of her life. I remember her standing on her little stool to "wash" the car and her interest in my porch lights and my potted blueberries -- which we still have and still make me think of Emma. We are grieving with you and keeping you in our thoughts.

Joe and Carmen: Thinking of you and sending love to all as you grieve this unexpected, devastating loss. Much love, always. RZ
Joe: So very sorry about Emma. Please know you and your family are in our thoughts and prayers. Condolences.
Emma was always a bright spot. We drifted apart in the recent years as sometimes happens in high school, but I will always remember her friendship and kindness in elementary school and KEY. I remember performing Red by Taylor Swift at the school talent show in 6th grade. We practiced for weeks before, and when I got nervous she gave me the confidence I needed to go out on stage. That bathroom stall pep talk really sums her up as a person: kind, selfless, and the kind of friend we all hope to have at some point in our lives. To Joe, Carmen, and Raymond, I am truly and deeply sorry for your loss. Please know that my family and I are praying for you and if we can ever do anything to help, we would be more than happy.
So heartbreaking. I have coached a lot of players, no one epitomized the term “coachable” more than Emma. She worked hard, she listened, encouraged her teammates, and was fun to be around. She will be greatly missed.
Joe, I am so incredibly sorry for your loss. Cinzia and I will keep you firmly in our thoughts, hoping that somehow you will be able to find a path forward through the pain and sorrow!
Tom and Cinzia Blum
I remember Emma’s birth, right between my own kids, and recall fondly all the times we shared with her, Trent, Lauren, and Raymond when the kids were all small. She was always such a shy little girl, clinging close to her Mother with a sweet and slightly mischievous little smile. My how she blossomed into such a confident, beautiful young woman since we last saw her!
I can’t fathom the depths of grief you must feel. Our hearts are with you, and we are praying for peace for all who knew Emma. May those who feel her physical absence most acutely be blessed to feel the comfort and warmth of her continued spiritual presence.
Gretchen, Trent, & Lauren
There are no words that can adequately express our sorrow for your family. You are in our prayers.
Cori and Brad Cherryholmes
Emma was always one of my best students with such a warm and beautiful spirit and energy. I am so saddened by this. Joe, Carmen and Raymond, my heart breaks for you. Please know I'm praying for all of you.
