Obituary of Thomas M. Cornwell

Thomas M. “Tom” Cornwell, age 65 died Monday, August 24, 2020, at his home. Thomas Michael Cornwell was born September 3, 1954, the son of Donald and Joyce Cornwell. Growing up in Cedar Rapids he attended schools there graduating from Cedar Rapids Prairie. He then served in the United States Marines during the Vietnam War. Returning he attended the University of Iowa with his studies focused on mechanical engineering. He married Deanna J. Hoskinson on January 16, 1982, in Iowa City. He worked in the mechanical engineering field for Pearson for many years. Tom was a man of many talents and interest, he was interested in his Native American Heritage, loved animals, the farm, woodworking, spending time with his family. He was quick to say his marriage to Deanna was the best decision he had ever made in his life and spending nearly 40 years together before her death was simply his heaven. His grandchildren he adored, sharing his passion for the outdoors, animals, the farm, and his humor, though sometimes hard to appreciate! His family includes his daughter, Meagan Richardson; grandchildren, Deanna Richardson (Levi Tripses), Aurora Richardson, Lee Richardson and Molly Milder; and son-in-law, Chad Richardson. He was preceded in death by his father, Donald Cornwell, daughter, Shantele Cornwell; nephew, Chad Courtney; and his in-laws, Lloyd and Darlene Hoskinson. Private family services are being planned with burial at Memory Gardens with Military Honors provided. A memorial fund has been established in his memory.
