Obituary of Frank J. Snider
Frank Snider passed away Sunday, October 11, 2020 at Oaknoll Retirement Residence in Iowa City, Iowa at the age of 93.
Frank was born on February 10, 1927 in West Branch, Iowa to Frank and Letha (Green) Snider. He attended schools in Iowa City graduating from City High School with the Class of 1945. He then attended and graduated from the State University of Iowa with a degree in Business, where he was a member of the Phi Gamma Delta Fraternity-MuDuteron Chapter. Frank enlisted in the United States Navy towards the end of the Korean Conflict.
Frank married Gretchen Flindt in 1951, the couple moved to Spencer Iowa in 1952 where they would raise their three children. They stayed in Spencer until moving to Iowa City in 2003 to live in the Oaknoll Retirement Residence. They spent, with family and friends many marvelous summers at the family summer residence on Dixon Beach / West Lake Okoboji. Frank and Gretchen enjoyed travelling. The family, when the children were younger, took vacations to Europe, Mexico, Canada, and various spots throughout the states. All the children moved to California after college, so Frank and Gretchen spent many winters visiting Bill, Melanie, and Jim in the warmer climate.
Frank was active in his community of Spencer, serving as the Chairman and CEO of Clay County National Bank. He belonged to the Masonic Lodge, Shriners, long time member of the Clay County Fair Board in Spencer, a loyal and very active member of the Republican Party, looking forward to casting his vote in November.
Frank’s family includes his son, William (wife Vel); grandchildren, Douglas Graham, Benjamin Snider (wife Katie) and Alison Snider; great grandchildren, Samuel Snider and Abigail Snider (son and daughter of Ben and Katie Snider). He was preceded in death by his wife, Gretchen (2017); son, James Snider (1993); daughter, Melanie Graham (2014) and granddaughter, Sarah Graham (2000).
Private Graveside Services will be held at 2pm Friday, October 23, 2020, at the Sharon Hill Cemetery in Kalona. Frank’s service will be live streamed on Friday afternoon beginning at 2pm and can be viewed later also. To view please search “Remembering Frank Snider” on Facebook and request to join the group.
