Condolences
Dave was one of those unique individuals who could initiate a conversation with a stranger and wind up with a friend. He had a way of making people feel comfortable around him. He was an incredible conversationalist. He was kind. He had the best sense of humor. He had a big heart. He started out as my patient, and became my friend. I admired and respected him for the way he treated others. I am privileged to have known him. You have my deepest sympathies, Chris.
So sorry for your loss, Chris and family. I worked at ACT and knew Dave from there. He was always willing to listen and help with any concerns. He'll be missed, I know.
Chris, I'm very sorry to hear of Dave's death. Although I retired from ACT in 2003, it seems almost like yesterday when I would drop into Dave's office at ACT with yet another problem requiring his expertise. I found him to be a very kind man, friendly to everyone, with an unusual knack for offering practical solutions. I feel I know your children through our many conversations while at ACT. I wish you and your family strength in working through this loss. Dick Lamb
I was so sorry to hear of Dave’s passing. I worked at ACT and would see Dave stop by our department during his workday. Dave had a great sense of humor and a great smile.
My deepest sympathies.
Chris and family,
My condolences to all of you. Dave's picture of the happy, smiling face is who I remember at ACT and outside of work. Always so kind and friendly to me! He'll be missed.

My heart goes out to you and your family, Chris. Dave was an adventurous man whose presence filled any space or situation with a glow of laughter and friendship. He will be missed.
Dave Pate - the shining light at ACT. This man made every day at work joyous and I'm better for having known him. I also have a lot more one-liners thanks to Dave. Sending all my love to Dave's memory and support to Chris, or as Dave called her - Mom, and his kids as they learn to navigate life without Dave's physical presence.
I am so sad to hear about Dave. He was a great man. Prayers to Chris and the family.
I worked with Dave on the Children's Unit at MHI in Mount Pleasant. He was a very outgoing and friendly guy who enjoyed working with the children . They loved their recreation time with Dave and he made their time at MHI so much better.

Damn...….."Pater' has gone ahead'. I met Dave at City High in the 60s, then all through college here at IOWA. Great guy, HUGE smile and laugh...FULL of zip, full of fun.. Loved the farm..Spent a lot of quality time with Dave in college. He always tried to get me to wear cowboy boots like him.. So I did!.. I trust his Family will do well, but it won't be easy,. Dave Pate was a great guy and now GOD has a plan for him.

This truly makes me sad. Dave was such a great boss at ACT. When he retired the whole company didn’t feel quite right any longer. He always listened to problems and did what he could to set things right. Bless your family as you navigate grief.
I went to high school with Dave (aka Pater) and a brother in Delta Tau Delta fraternity with him. That picture is what you saw every time you saw his face! So friendly and upbeat spirit. A friend for life and a better person for knowing Dave. Condolences to the family. May you have peace through this difficult time.
Dave had the best sense of humor, he always had a good joke and loved to make people laugh. I enjoyed working with him at ACT and hearing about his great adventures. My thoughts and prayers are with the family…

Chris,
Words cannot express my shock and sadness upon hearing of Dave's passing. He was a man of uncommon common sense and a great guy to have a beer with and swap lies. I missed talking with him at ACT after he retired. He always had a good word and a heartfelt smile. My sincerest of condolences to you and the family.
Dear Chris,
I was saddened to learn of Dave's passing. The last time I saw you and Dave was at the Hills Bank lecture on One Room School Houses. I remember how happy you two were and your smiles and giggles as we briefly reminisced about our days at City High and your children at Shimek!
Please know Dave has been in my prayers and you and your family will continue in my thoughts and prayers.

Chris and Family, I am so sorry to hear this news of Dave’s passing. He was greeted with a very long “Oakley” line of friends. I have so many wonderful memories of Dave from the Gun Club days. That smile and his laughter was contagious. His kindness so generous. Love and Prayers through this difficult time. Brenda Verry
We lost a good one . . . although I hadn’t seen him recently, there are more than a few happy memories (and stories!) that keep cropping up in memory. Dave’s smile will live forever in my heart . . . he will truly be missed. My heart goes out to Chris and the kids . . .
