Dear Joan and family,
At this time I would like to share one of Jenny's favorite verses.
"The Lord bless thee and keep thee:
The Lord make his face shine upon thee,
and be gracious unto thee: The lord lift
up his countenance upon thee, and give
thee peace."
Numbers 6:24-26
May you have memories for comfort.
May you have friends for support.
May you have strong faith to lift you up.
With Love and Prayers,
Bill Huffman
Dear Aunt Joan, my sweet cousins and families,
I have such fond memories of Uncle Donnie over the years! Oh, how he loved to be with the children! I remember when Joshua and Stepan were little, they traveled here just to meet the boys. They brought a farm puzzle, and sitting on the floor, they worked away. Uncle Donnie would toss the boys around and oh how they would giggle! Eventhough it was long ago, the memory is strong and touching! I still treasure the puzzle, tucked away.
Jay and I had such fun in the Ozarks a few years ago as we were the trail guides on a hike...Jay was the captain of the pontoon as we went sightseeing on the lake...and zooming around in golf carts as we traveled their favorite course!
In recent years, I had the privilege of taking my parents to Iowa twice a year, playing cards with Aunt Virjean, Kendra, Aunt Sandra and Uncle Glen, and of course Uncle Donnie and Aunt Joan would drive in from Iowa City. What a blessing to be able to spend time together! Whether the memories are from long ago or in our recent past, when I picture Uncle Donnie it is with his little smirky smile and a twinkle in his eye! I hope you can capture what I see…
His favorite verse is my favorite verse... Romans 15:13... Praying...May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.
We love you all and continue to pray you experience God's peace and comfort as you mourn the loss of your beloved husband, dad and grandpa.

Dear Joan, My sincere condolences to you and your family on the loss of your husband. Carol is my friend from our Bible study group, and has shared with us. May the Holy Spirit comfort you and your lifetime of memories bring you a joy that will help to ease the sorrow. One word of comfort burned in my memory from a beloved church elder "Don't think of this as loss, but as a beautiful blessing come to an end". It is indeed a loss, but also that ended blessing.
1 Thessalonians 4:13-14
Brothers and sisters, we do not want you to be uninformed about those who sleep in death, so that you do not grieve like the rest of mankind, who have no hope. For we believe that Jesus died and rose again, and so we believe that God will bring with Jesus those who have fallen asleep in him. - with sympathy, Joy Glidden
I am forever indebted to Don for the support he provided to my career in hospital administration. The promotion into a senior management position he somehow arranged proved he was a person who could indeed be trusted when he promised that in six months he would make it "worth my while" if I turned down a job offer and remained at the Univ of MN Hospital. Don also introduced me to the Citizens League and the opportunities that organization provided in learning about and participating in shaping community development. He is fondly remembered.
Dear Joan and girls,
So many fond memories of our family time spent together...Fourth of July, Edina and our reunions in the Ozarks, watching the tennis ball go back and forth! We are so grateful the entire family came to celebrate our 50th Anniversary at Lake of the Ozarks! We also think back on our vacations, all of the siblings at the Vande Lunes Lake House, Iowa city, Carmel, Mesa and Yuma. Games, cards and “conversations“. On one of our “conversations“, I missed the turn coming home from Yuma. We had to take the long way home! Don always won the debates because he was smarter, but I was always right… Ha ha!
We are so grateful he married the love of his life, was successful in his career and raised five wonderful, loving, Godly girls!
We are also thankful to you Joan for your love and care and devotion to Don throughout the years.
We pray for God‘s love and peace as you mourn the loss of your husband, dad and grandpa!
We love you. In Christ, Bill and Retha
My deepest sympathies to Aunt Joan and all my wonderful cousins. I'm so blessed to have Don as an uncle. I could only hope to live a life as fully as he did. I will always remember listening to Don and my father talk about the politics of the day on vacations in the Ozarks. I didn't have a clue what they were talking about but it was all in good faith. My thoughts are with all of you and I look forward to celebrating Don's life with you next week.

Dear Joan - my condolences to you and your family on the loss of your husband. Carol is my friend from Bible study and has shared the heartbreak you’ve experienced. I will continue to pray for you as you experience life without the man you’ve loved for so many years. A tradition in my family is to have II Cor. 5:8 engraved on the gravestone “...absent from the body - at home with the Lord.” I thought it might be a comfort to you as well. Love, Anne Kallina
Joan, Carol, Wendy, Laurie and Amy-
I am so sad to learn of Don's passing. You were all such an important part of my life in Minnesota. My thoughts are with you all.

Carol sending prayers and condolences to you and your family in the loss of your dear father. I pray that these scriptures will comfort you and your family.
He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning, nor pain anymore, for the former things have passes away. The Lord is close to the broken-hearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit. He heals the broken-hearted and binds up their wounds. Do not let your heart be troubled.

I am truly sorry for your loss. May the love of family and friends comfort you today. May you feel His embrace and love. For He says He will never leave us. He says in John 14:27 - May peace I leave with you; my peace I give you.
Sincere condolences to all the family in this time of extreme sorrow. A wonderful tribute to a man whose life was well-lived. Fond memories of his family, our neighbors on Flanigan Court.

Carol, your father was an inspiration and such a caring man with a servant's heart helping so many people throughout his life. I see his influence in you through your kindness, intelligence and faithfulness. I pray that you and your family will feel God's loving embrace and comfort, and rejoice in knowing you will one day be reunited in heaven. "He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain anymore, for the former things have passed away." Revelation 21:4 - Tracey D. from Maryland

This is a beautiful tribute to such a kind and accomplished man who made a deep impact on his family, friends, and community - a life well lived. Many moons ago, I had the sincere pleasure of hosting Don, his wonderful wife Joan, Carol, and Joanne in my home for brunch. Don's caring spirit shone through from the start. He was a brilliant conversationalist and his love of his family was so evident. It was just so very nice to be in his presence.
Joan, I am sending you my deep condolences at your loss of your beloved. Carol, how you loved and admired your dad.
David and I are holding your family in prayer. May God bless you and hold you in the palm of his hand.

Joan, I hear your voice and Dons voice in this beautiful writing. I feel so honored to have known Don. I look forward to a warm cup of tea and cookie with you - when we can gather- and share memories. You are in my prayers. Beth Anne
Donald sounds like a dedicated man of faith and a servant to the health needs of everyone. I only know his daughter Carol but in her I see that his legacy is living on in his children. Her heart is grounded in Christ and her work in public health is a testimony to her father’s sincere interest in bettering health care. My condolences to all who loved and admired him...especially his dear wife Joan and his daughters. Perhaps this Proverb is an appropriate one to dedicate to this beloved man “ A righteous man who walks in his integrity- how blessed are his sons (daughters!) after him. Proverbs 20:7. Robin Maurer in Maryland.
Dear Joan and Family,
What a wonderful tribute to a wonderful, caring and accomplished man. Joan, I wish we could hold you in our arms. All our love, Charmaine and Paul Kleiber
