Obituary of Jerry R. Womer
Jerry R. Womer, 75 formerly of the Iowa City area died Thursday, December 31, 2020, at a hospital in Des Moines.
Jerry Robert Womer was born September 17, 1945, in Iowa City the son of Robert and Dorothy (Lehman) Womer. Following graduation from City High School in Iowa City in 1963, he enlisted in the United States Army serving his country in Germany during the Vietnam War. Following his discharge he served in the Coast Guard Auxiliary for a number of years. Jerry returned to this area and began farming in the southern part of Johnson County, Iowa. From this he began a variety of businesses that would keep him busy throughout his lifetime. Beginning with Jerry’s Snowmobiles on Sand Road in Iowa City and DJ Brass both here and later in his life in Wisconsin. In his retirement he enjoyed hunting, fishing, Nascar, Green Bay Packers and traveling to Alaska with Peggy.
His family includes his wife, Peggy; two children, Dennis Womer (Julie) and Denise Hester (Greg); 6 grandchildren, Aidan, Lillie, Rachel, Taylor, Sydney, and Jack; Jerry’s sister and her husband, Karen and Ed Gaffey; 4 step-children, Russ Fullenkamp (Laura), Brian Fullenkamp (Jodi), Joy Alexander (Troy) and Eric Fullenkamp (Kia); 13 step-grandchildren, Ryan Fullenkamp (Kadie), Micaela Stevenes (Dalton), Bret Dean (Bobbi); Chelsea Fullenkamp, Alexis Fullenkamp, Brock Durflinger, Ethan Durflinger, Lucas Durflinger, Tanner Alexander, Jansen Alexandre, Bristol Alexander, Alexis Mitchell and Elani Fullenkamp; Jerry’s sister and her husband, Karen and Ed Gaffey; and Peggy’s siblings and their spouses, Rosie Brune, Gene Brune (JoAnn), Tom Needham, Ken Brune, Janet Thrasher (Tom), Sam Brune (Sheila) and Ellen Gaudineer.
Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, Peggy’s siblings and spouses, Bill Brune, Mary Needham, Annette Brune and Lee Gaudineer.
Private family graveside services with military honors will be held at 2pm Tuesday, January 5th. at Memory Gardens Cemetery. The services will be livestreamed for friends and extended family.
