Obituary of Margaret I. Tonne

Margaret Ione Shrope Tonne, 98, passed away Saturday, January 16, 2021 at Briarwood Healthcare Center in Iowa City, IA. Private family graveside services will be at 11:00 am Tuesday at Norwich Cemetery in Martelle, Iowa. The services will be livestreamed for friends and extended family. Margaret was born September 26, 1922, on a farm south of Mechanicsville, IA to Forrest and Lola Johnson Shrope. She graduated from Mechanicsville High School in 1940 and did some coursework at the State University of Iowa. Margaret and Robert Tonne were married on September 16, 1943. They shared the same birthday date one year apart. Bob passed away March 12, 1987. As a farm wife and homemaker, she enjoyed life in the Mechanicsville area and was a member of the Presbyterian Church. The family moved to Anamosa in 1962 where Margaret was a member of the United Methodist Church and librarian at the Anamosa Public Library, for 25 years. Predeceasing Margaret were her parents, her husband, and her sister, Marie Phillips. Margaret is survived by her sister, Jean Davidson, her daughter, Kathryn Osen (Jerry), her sons Merle Tonne Deborah) and Lyle Tonne (Marie Von Behren), grandchildren Sean Lamont (Susan), Hugh John Lamont II, Travis Tonne (Tiara), Erik Tonne (Leah), Stefanie Tonne-Jones (Nathan), Tina Tonne, seven great-grandchildren, and many family members and friends. The family is deeply grateful to Briarwood for the love and care Margaret was given in her time there. She will be greatly missed.
