Obituary of Kevin Townsend Dalmut

Kevin Townsend Dalmut, age 39, passed away suddenly Tuesday, January 19, 2021 in Iowa City, IA. Kevin was born March 6, 1981 at Georgetown Hospital in Washington, DC, and was raised in Springfield, VA. He attended Bishop Ireton High School and graduated from the University of Mary Washington in Fredericksburg, VA with a Bachelor of Science in Economics. Kevin pursued a successful career in investment management, working first at Cambridge Associates and later the University of Maryland Foundation. He was a proud member of the University of Iowa Center for Advancement investment team since 2019 and had looked forward to many more years supporting the Center’s goals of enhancing affordable university education to promising students through growing its endowment. He also served on the Center’s Diversity, Equity and Inclusion committee. Kevin was celebrated in Chief Investment Officer’s Forty Under Forty list in 2012, 2013, and 2014. More important to Kevin than any investment deal was his family. Kevin’s immediate family included wife Hanne (Bursch) Dalmut, mother Barbara, 3 sisters: Margaret (Meg) Haslip, Elizabeth (Beth), and Theresa Small, 2 sisters-in-law: Christina and Karin, 3 brothers-in-law: Josh, Scott, and Nick, and his parents-in-law: Heide and Charlie. He adored his niece and nephews, Colby, Milo, Mason, Casey, and Faylinn. He is reunited with his father, Pete Dalmut. Kevin was a joy. He lived to support his loved ones, comfort those in need, and make the world a better place. He loved the Washington Capitals hockey team, the Washington Nationals baseball team, and annually supported the Movember Foundation, for which he had raised over $67,000 in his lifetime and memorium. He and Hanne traveled the world together, had lived in Washington, DC and New York City, and were looking forward to a new life together in Iowa City. Kevin was a recovering alcoholic and aspired to be a source of support and guidance for those struggling with addiction. He told terrible jokes but was loved for it. To honor Kevin, consider donating to the Movember Foundation (https://movember.com/m/kdalmut?mc=1) or by sharing his favorite joke at the moment (Q: What’s green, soft, and has wheels? A: Grass -- he lied about the wheels). Kevin’s celebration of life will be held on March 6, 2021 in Springfield, VA and will offer virtual opportunities to come together.
