Betty Lou Lacina
1929 - 2021
Condolences
Some of my earliest memories are of spending time with Betty at Oakdale. I even did a report about Occupational Therapy as a career. And I cherish the ceramic Christmas Tree she made for me, I think of her every year as I get it out (it is packed in shredded newspaper - probably from the Press Citizen!)
I remember babysitting for you two in Oakdale when Mom & Dad and Betty & Wayne would go out to dinner. I remember watching her pick out her jewelry & touch up her hair & makeup. Seemed so exotic, since my Mom only wore lipstick & minimal jewelry.
I also remember baking bread with your Mom to take for communion at First Presbyterian church.
Your Mom was always so glamorous - such beautiful clothes & jewelry and perfect hair & makeup. And always a gorgeous smile and a kind word. Deb & I always felt so welcome when you moved over to Court St and were within walking distance. Celebrating Hawkeye home football games alternating at your house & ours.
And summers up at the reservoir! I loved that player piano. My favorite summer was the year that Darby had all those puppies. We had such fun playing with those adorable pups!
I hope that all of your happy memories of your Mom help ease the grief of losing her.
Love to you both and to your families

My deepest sympathies and condolences to the family.
I knew Betty through Pilot Club of Iowa City and am so glad to have known her.
When she entered the room it just lit up. She was such a beautiful and gracious lady, and a joy to talk with during dinners. She always made everyone feel special and remembered things we had spoken about previously.
I hope that I can age as gracefully as she.
I'm sorry that we weren't able to get together for the last year due to Covid-19 restrictions.
She will be missed greatly by all.
Please accept our deepest condolences for your families loss of Betty.

Andrea, I'm so sorry to hear of your mom's passing. Peace to you and your family.
SO SORRY ABOUT BETTY'S DEATH-she was suppose to live to 100 - like her Mother and Jan. We had so many good times at the lake. Good times - good friends - great memories. RIP Sally Henry
My deepest sadness to all of you. I was just thinking of Betty recently, as I hadn't contacted her in awhile. I will always cherish all the times on Court St. And at the Reservoir.
So sorry to hear about your Mom. Betty was a wonderful person, so friendly and helpful. My Dad, Karl Lottenbach was Wayne’s roommate at Oaknoll. Betty was so helpful and supportive through these difficult times. She was so kind to both Dad and Shirley. We were so blessed to have met her and her family. We enjoyed chatting with Betty many times when we visited Dad. Betty certainly was an angel in our life. Our thoughts and prayers are with you in these difficult times. The world has lost a special person.

So sorry to hear about Betty Lou's death. Peg was Betty's roommate at Iowa and shared a birthday 6 days apart. We spent many shared birthday parties together including Peg's last at Solon Nursing Home in 2006. The Lacina's visited us when we lived in Tennessee and New York and we spent many times together at their lake house.
Betty will be missed by all her friends here at Oaknoll. I was particularly privileged to work with Betty (and Wayne too) out on Oakdale’s campus for years. I was a nurse there and Betty made each day more enjoyable for the patients, some who were there for literally months.
We both moved into Oaknoll and enjoyed activities together here. Betty’s ready smile and alert manner made her a joy to be around!
I was saddened to hear that your mom Betty passed away. I had the pleasure to meet her. She will be missed. I will always remember her smile and the warmth. May she Rest In Peace.
The Lacina Family,
We are so sorry to hear of Betty's passing. Roger and I enjoyed her company many times spent with the Greer family. We are thinking of you during this very difficult, sad time.
Sincerely,
Roger and Elaine Brown
The Lacina Family, I am saddened to hear of your Mother’s passing. I was very fortunate to serve her and her friend, Pat usually every Tuesday evening at Midtown Family Restaurant and when her family in town. We talked about our families and what happened during the week and coming up the next week. I feel like I have lost a very good friend. May she Rest In Peace and May God bless.
