Condolences
Ray was a wonderful and warm man. He was my absolute favorite dentist ever.
My deep condolences to his family.
Margaret, Tom, and Bill - I was sad to read of your dad's passing and send you my condolences. I knew him as my dentist in the 60s and early 70s as well as a kind and friendly neighbor. We lived kitty-corner across Ninth Ave. and Margaret was like another little sister. She and my sister Mary grew up together, shared so many adventures, and are still friends.
Dr. Gill was the kindest man! He was a good listener and gave advice with humor. He always had a smile and friendly greeting whether at the dental office or in the neighborhood.
My mom enjoyed a friendship with Jen, sewing matching costumes for Margaret and Mary and matching wardrobes for their Barbies. My parents, Hank and Elaine Matt, had great respect for Dr. Gill.
When I came home to Coralville after moving away in 1965, I would enjoy visiting with Dr. Gill whose warm and friendly manner were memorable. His keen interest in my life and encouragement were so welcome.
Love and peace to you as continue without him nearby. I know the closeness of your family will always be a part of you! May the Lord wrap you in his loving arms!
Kathy (Matt) Cox
So sorry to hear about Dr. Gill, the world has lost a very special man. Had the honor of working in Dr. Gill’s office when in high school way back in 1971. Tried to keep in touch with him as we moved around Iowa.
Dr. Gill was a mentor to me. Always enjoyed our chats and appreciated his advice while working for him. When we moved back to Iowa City I ran into Dr. Gill again in his practice and at the bank where I worked. Loved chatting with him and the energy and positive attitude he always had. So glad I had the opportunity to know Dr. Gill.
My thoughts are with you in these difficult times. Earth has lost an angel. Linda & Jack Carlson

Our deepest sympathy to all the Gill family. Your dad was such a good man. He always greeted us with a warm smile and great conversation. He was a good influence for many. I know he'll always be in your hearts. Keep your memories close.

Margaret and Dave and Family,
We were so sorry to hear about your loss of your wonderful Dad. Many blessings to you. Take good care, Bruce & Mary Schwab
Well over fifty years ago John was looking for a dentist. His secretary suggested Ray. She said he was good with kids so John thought he would be good with him. John then told me that if I was looking for a dentist he was sure I'd like Ray because the office played the kind of music we liked! We always appreciated Ray's advice and expertise on many topics. He was a good conversationalist. Unlike so many people, we always enjoyed going to the dentist. Once during an appointment I saw a little saying that Dr. Gill had posted: THERE IS NOTHING THAT ANY DENTIST CAN DO WHICH WILL OVERCOME WHAT THE PATIENT WILL NOT DO. I asked for a copy then printed it in very small print and put it in a small frame in our bathroom. The purpose of making it so small was to entice one to look closer and read it and take it to heart. It has been in our bathroom for years. It will stay in our bathroom. I think of Dr. Gill every time I see it. It is right next to my electric toothbrush! We have lost a good friend and will remember him with fondness. Thank you Dr. Ray Gill. Janet and John Tiffany
We were so saddened to hear of Doc's passing. Now we know why he didn't respond to our birthday card or phone calls. We always called him on his birthday. One year, we missed him and just left a message. Later, he called me back when I was having dinner with my sister. Doc and I visited and as I said goodbye to him, he told me he loved me and I told him the same. My sister said to me, "WHO was THAT??" (She knew it wasn't my husband Gerry). When I told her it was my DENTIST, she about fainted! Who says "I love you" to their dentist? WE do if your dentist is Doc! How lucky we were to have had him in our lives.
The McGaffey family also moved to Coralville in 1956. Doc was our dentist until we moved in 1965. Please accept our condolences for your loss.
We were sad to hear of Dr. Gill's death. Our dentist from 1965 until he retired . He was a wonderful person and we loved talking to him as well as his good care. Something that Jim and I will always remember is when he was taking care of Jen, he told us that someone asked how he could do it when she didn't remember who he was and he told the person that she might not know who he was but he knew who She was. Our condolences to all his family.
Sorry for your loss. Have many good memories of Doc over the years. Was always friendly and in a good mood . Had a good sense of humor and a very ambitious man. Will be missed. Best to all of you.
To the Gill Family, I'm sorry for you loss and he will be greatly missed by all who were lucky to know him!
I used to work at Target for years and I was lucky to Have him come thru my lane many times and he was a joy to talk to. I always looked forward to having him come thru my lane for a visit! When I retired in 2017 he was a regular guest that I knew I would miss our talks he was always so friendly and I enjoyed his smile! I hope all your wonderful memories will help you get thru this difficult time! One day at a time, you live for the memories, and it shows your support system! Your Family and Friends will be in my thoughts and Prayers and he will always be in your hearts and he is watching over you! Like I said I was very lucky to get to know him and I wish I knew him longer!

My very first dentist...such a kind and gentle soul. Fair winds and greener pastures my friend. May you all find PEACE at this most difficult time. Lorna
Dear Bill, Doug, Mary, Rachel, Dan and families,
My deepest condolences to you on your loss of Ray.
I had the privilege of meeting him about 4-5 times and he was very much of a gentleman.
Quite a conversationalist who was interested in what you did and felt, as well as polite and a good listener.
Kathy always told me about how devoted he was to taking care of his beloved Jen.
A rare trait nowadays....
May your love and laughter with him ease your pain of loss.
I have been thinking a lot about him lately wondering how he was managing everything.
Your were blessed to have him in your life as well as he was with each of you.
All my love and prayers now and Always
Sincerely,
Joellen Megan

Steve and I are so sorry to hear this sad news. Our condolences to the entire family. Steve and LuAnn Stewart
Gill family,
Sorry to hear about the loss of Doc. I worked in your office back in the early 80’s with dee Dee and Mel. I remember how we would gather in the break room after hours enjoying each other’s laughter. What a great family to work for.
Take care,
Wendy (West) Wagamon, Northcutt
So sorry for your loss. Thinking of you all and sending prayers and hugs.
Amanda, Joe, Hayden, Mason and Sawyer
I'm so sorry to hear this. He was a good friend to my parents for over 50 years.
Gill family sorry for your loss. You will all be in my prayers. God Bless
I remember when was at Grandma Moo's when I was little I would walk across the street to Doc's and he would pull my loose teeth for me.
Even after Grandma passed I took my kids over there for Halloween. It was so nice to see him.
Doc always knew how to calm me down in the chair. It came in handy later in life when my teeth had to be pulled because of Sjrogins Syndrome.
Doc was one of the great men in our community who got things going for Coralville. It's sad that we are loosening so many of these wonderful men.
You all are in my thoughts and prayers during this difficult time. May the Good Lord wrapped his arms around you all.
