DeeDee and I taught 4th grade together at Riverside Elementary from 1974-1977. I arrived at the school fresh out of college and plenty inexperienced. DeeDee was a wonderful mentor to me that year; always willing to spend time discussing different aspects of teaching. After I left Riverside I went on to teach another 30 years in Illinois. I'll always be grateful to DeeDee for helping me to get off on the right foot. She loved teaching and her students; enjoying their successes and marveling in the outcome of science experiments as much as they did. She was a gem and will be missed.
I was lucky enough to have Mrs. Couch as my 2nd grade and 4th grade teacher! She was a really great teacher and I loved being in her class. My sympathies to the family.
I met DeeDee with Carl Couch at annual meetings and banquets of the symbolic interaction society. They were warm and gracious people and welcomed me, a young sociologist without a "network." As I get older now I miss greatly the friendships and mentors I met through the society of symbolic interaction. Carl was a leader and a mentor to many of us. I send my heartfelt condolences to their family and friends.
Sorry to hear about LaVerne. I remember her as a teacher at Riverside Elementary. She was a good teacher. She will be greatly missed by all that knew her. She will always be with us in our hearts memories spirits and thoughts.
My wife Jean and I met DeeDee and Carl through the University’s “newcomers” organization soon after we both arrived here. We found that we shared an interest in bridge. Over the years we enjoyed innumerable evenings playing couples bridge, and on a number of occasions Jean joined DeeDee as her duplicate bridge partner. We also had several delightful summer visits with them at their Montana cabin. DeeDee will be fondly remembered, and my heartfelt condolences to the family.
I remember visits to the Montana cabin as a kid, and fishing witth Jonny. Carl and DeeDee were always really good to me and I remember them both fondly. My condolences on this loss! Sincerely, Art’s daughter Nicole
