Condolences
I was a student of Ms.Myers, and I thought she was just a wonderful teacher, and later we became friends. I'm only just hearing of her passing and the world is now missing one of its most amazing people. I haven't seen/spoken with her in many years, but I can hear her voice in my head, as I remember her singing to her students in their first week of class! She made a big impact on me, and I won't forget her inspiration or gentle determination.
Good bye Ms.Myers.
To Virginia's family I send my caring and my thoughts. To me she was the Admiral. Always present, always caring, and with a sense of humor. She was a counselor at Hanoum Camp for many years. She and another counselor took all the 15 years old kids on a week long camping and canoeing trip in the wilderness of Maine. It rained every day! We had to build cooking fires three times a day. We were wet for most of the trip. A person cut her leg badly with an axe. Admiral sewed it up. She was calm and patient throughout the rain! I just heard of her death this morning, and although I have not seen her for many years, I miss her presence on this earth.

Miss Myers was one of the most influential people in my life. I was so saddened when I heard of her passing. She was my teacher and mentor. I will always carry her in my heart. What she taught me has gone beyond the classroom. She was a great inspiration and example. I will miss her greatly.

It was a pleasure to know Virginia. Her passion and dedication will inspire me always. She will be missed but her legacy at Iowa and beyond is assured.
I am Ginny's cousin. My sisters, Dorothy Cossaboon and Keri Botello, and I have wonderful memories of Ginny. She was very close to us. While a student at California College of Arts and Crafts, Ginny would spend most weekends with us at our home in Sacramento. She was great fun and we were taken by her enthusiasm for life and her art. She and our Mother were very close. Our homes are full of Ginny's art. She was a very skilled painter and we have several of he oils. Over the years after she went to U of I ,we stayed in touch with Ginny and visited her at her beloved Ten Acre. I spoke with her about three months ago. She was engrossed in getting a show ready to hang and we only had a brief conversation. She lived a full and vibrant life and we love her and miss her. I took a printmaking class from Virginia Myers in the summer of 1964 or 65. It was one of my favorite classes ever and I have lasting memories of Miss Myers even after all these years. She was an amazing person. My sympathy to you.
Profoundly grateful and deeply admiring the remarkable Virginia A. Myers as the finest of teachers, most committed of artists and as a strong independent woman of rock solid personal integrity, I join all who grieve in celebrating Virginia for a big creative generous life beautifully accomplished!
My family and I wish to send our sincere sympathy to Virginia's family and friends. We were next door neighbors to Virginia for many years until moving from our acreage in 2000. She was a special neighbor and a special friend. Two of my youngest children helped Virginia plant the grove of trees below the driveway after she moved to Tenacre. We are not acquainted with Virginia's surviving relatives but we wish to send special condolences to Scott who was there to help Virginia for so many years. Scott, we will not forget seeing the two of you at lunch at the Dairy Queen, in August, and sharing Brent's birthday cake with both of you. That was a special occasion for those of my family who were there, and myself. Virginia was a special lady and Scott, you are a special gentleman to have dedicated so much time to helping her. Our deepest sympathy to you.
I was privileged to interview Virginia at her home in 1999 as part of my Iowa Women Artists Oral History Project. I enjoyed our interview very much, and could have continued for double the time if I hadn't had another interview scheduled the same day.
