Obituary of Paul Buchmayer
Paul Buchmayer, 88, of Iowa City, died Friday, March 19, 2021, at Solon Care Center.
Paul was born October 19, 1932, to Otto and Agnes Buchmayer. He was raised in rural Solon where he attended and graduated from high school. After graduating, he went into the Army taking his training at Camp Chaffe, ARK. He went to Korea where he served for a little over a year with an 8 inch artillery unit. When he returned from overseas, he worked a short time at the VA. He then went to work at Owen’s Brush Co., where he worked for 38 ½ years as a machinist, retiring in February of 1997.
Paul married Clarice E. Rickard of Tipton in 1956 and they had 2 daughters, Debbie and Wendy. Paul and Clarice were married for 17 ½ years when she was killed in an auto accident in 1974. Four years later Paul married Peggy Lou Goff in 1978. Peggy had 2 sons, Steve and Gary Goff. Paul and Peggy were married 20 years when she died of lung cancer in 1999.
Paul is survived by his two daughters, Debbie and her husband, Kevin Kinney of Oxford, and their children, Shaun Kinney of Bradenton, Florida and Megan and her husband, Anthony Victor of Chicago, Illinois; Wendy and her husband, Doug Vincent of Iowa City, and their sons, Austin of Windermere, Florida, Christian of Tampa, Florida and Nile of Tiffin; by his sister, Dorothy Villhauer; brother-in-law, Bob Rickard, and his wife, Barb of Tipton; Peggy’s family and many nieces and nephews.
Paul is preceded in death by his parents, Clarice in 1974; Peggy in 1999; brother, Raymond; brother-in-law, Louie Villhauer, sister-in-law, Marvel Woode, and her husband, Mearl Woode.
Paul was a member of the Moose Club since 1974. He also loved the Chicago Cubs and Iowa Hawkeyes. Paul was a family man, enjoying family gatherings which always included his niece, Pam Wilkerson and her husband, Dean.
A visitation for family and friends will be held from 4 to 7pm Monday, March 22, 2021, at Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Services in Iowa City. Private family services with burial to follow at Red Oak Cemetery in Tipton will be held on Tuesday. Memorial donations can be made in his memory to the Diabetes Foundation or the Red Oak Cemetery.
