I’m so shocked and saddened. Bill was always a pleasure to see at Finkbine. His relentless appreciation of life was so refreshing and makes his loss a tragically premature one. I also appreciated the two of you coming in to eat so often. My sincere condolences to your whole family. Randy Larson

Janet-Martin and I were so sorry to hear about Bill. We didn't always see you on our trips to Iowa City but at some point Martin must have met Bill. All throughout the subsequent years, anytime my parents would relay a story (probably bridge club related) Martin would interrupt: Bill, such a nice guy. I have no idea what they spoke about, how long they spoke but it left a clear and indelible mark on Martin. And, (and I think my parents may have shared this with you)- in 2004, Bill engraved our wedding rings. I love the idea that something he so kindly did for us remains a part of our every day, forever. Thinking of you and your family.

As with many of the folks who will pay tribute to Bill, our connection is through golfing adventures on and off the golf course.

Every year we would look forward to Bill and Ed’s golf trip to Florida in January. They would kindly invite us to join them for golf and a fun meal after. We still have several of Bill’s personalized golf gifts that sit on our coffee table and keep us honest on the greens!

We would always chat on the practice green of the local courses in Iowa City.

Janet, he loved you so much. We would hear about you, your incredible career, and your travels together. I must admit, I had never heard of Tybee Island and now I think of Bill whenever I hear the name.

Our hearts are with you and your family. Our hearts are also with with Ed. I am not sure two brothers could have been much closer and enjoyed more their time together.

Janet, Elizabeth, Laura, & Paul: I'm sorry for your loss. I meet Bill when we were employees at Pleasant Valley Golf Course and have been golfing buddies since. What I will remember Bill for is his kindness and great desire to share with others. Usually twice a year, Bill would bring me a couple jars filled with the golf balls that I like to play. He took the time to know what type of ball I like and would keep that type of ball for me when he happened to come across balls while rangering at Finkbine. I will miss dearly miss Bill!!
