Mildred Joan Eggleston
1929 - 2021
Condolences
Whether at the house on Highland, the condo on Arbor Hill, the apartment at Legacy or even the few times I saw her at Briarwood, one of the things that made my heart start lifting any time I approached a door behind which sat Millie Eggleston was knowing soon I would hear, "Well Jodi, how ARE you?" Soon I would see that welcoming smile. Soon I would get a caring hug. And soon I would talk with someone who really cared about my life story.
Of course the other great thing behind that door was Roger and his sense of humor and the considered, deliberate way he told a story. What a great pair they were! And I was lucky to know them because they created and raised one of my favorite people in the world, their daughter and my friend Amy.
I'm thinking of all of you, Tom, Ann and Amy, during this time.
On behalf of the Waverly High School Class of 1947 I extend our sincerest condolences on the passing of our dear classmate. Mildred, or Milly as she was known in high school, was one of our National Honor students and served as our class treasurer, and participated in many other activities. She maintained contact with many of the students throughout the years and assisted in organizing class reunions. She remained a true friend, and for those of us who were in contact through the years a very great loss.
Amy, Tom and Ann - Dave and I were sorry to hear of your mother's passing. Mil and Roger were the first people we met in 1970 when we moved to Iowa City. As neighbors we become very close and they remained our best friends over the years. What a wonderful sense of humor they both had. Though we were only able to see Mil a couple of times during the pandemic, we had frequent phone conversations. We will miss her, yet we will always treasure memories.
You have our sympathy,
Ann and Dave McLaughlin
Please accept my sympathy on your mother and grandmother's death. Mildred was such a lovely person and a wonderful friend. I enjoyed knowing her over the years. I had many enjoyable visits with your mom and dad on their patio on Arbor Hill Circle that included my golden, Quinn, and later via the phone after she moved. She will be missed. May happy memories of Mildred bring you comfort in the coming days and months as you mourn her death. May she rest in peace. Mildred and all of you are in my thoughts and prayers.
Tom, Ann, and Amy - I was sorry to hear of your mom’s passing. Know that Mildred - and all of you - have been in my thoughts and prayers.
I was so sorry to hear of Mildred's passing. She was so nice and caring to our family during my husband's illness and we became friends. I will miss my visits and phone calls with her. My sympathy to you all.
Amy, Pam, and Tom
So sorry to learn of your mother's passing. I always enjoyed our phone chats and the times we were able to get together when I was still in Iowa City. I met Mildred when we worked at Hospital School and truly enjoyed her friendship! She was a great letter writer and I was always glad to get them! I will miss her. May she rest in the peace of the Lord!.
Take care,
Nancy Liggett
I am so very sad to hear of Mildred's passing. She was such a sharp, interesting and wonderful person to talk to! She was my son's 'Senior Pen Pal' when he was in 1st grade, and then I was so thankful to get to know her again and visit with her when my dad (Lowell) was at Briarwood. She will certainly be missed, my condolences to you all.
Tom, Anne, Amy - So sorry to hear about your Mom. It was nice to reconnect and visit with her when she and my Dad were both at the same care facility. Her passing has brought a flood of wonderful memories for me, those endless days in that neighborhood always ending with a Whiffle ball game in your back yard. Home runs just needed to clear the power line or the apple tree. I hope all of you are well. I am happy to say that my family is healthy and happy. Please know that I was blessed to have your Mom among the neighborhood Moms. I hope for your peace and the same for your Mom and Dad. All the best, Mike Vermace
My heart broke a little this morning when I read in the paper my friend, Mildred had passed away. We had just spoken on Sunday the 14th. She was going to make me a list of items she wanted me to bring her. But she never called with the list.
I have Great memories of Roger and I at the court house talking court cases. Roger loved watching jury trials. Fond memories of Mel, Roger, Milly and I at Paneras on a Sunday morning swapping stories and having breakfast.
I will miss her and my visits at Briarwood and when she was at Legacy. I have not been able to see her since March of 2020.
She was an amazing woman who loved her family and spoke affectionately of them all. She missed her Roger and her independence to be able to go places. We planned a dinner out when this virus ended.
Rest in peace dear friend, and say hi to Roger for us. Love you lady!
