Obituary of Janet Maxine Leiser

Janet M. Leiser, age 86 of Iowa City died Thursday, April 8, 2021, at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City. Private family services have been held with burial at Oakland Cemetery in Iowa City. In lieu of flowers memorial donations can be made in her memory to Breast Friends or Eastern Iowa Alzheimer’s Association. Janet Maxine Dumond was born January 23, 1935, the daughter of Wesley and Clara (Burns) Dumond. She grew up in Cedar Rapids where she attended schools, graduating from Wilson High School. She married James E. Leiser Sr. “Big Jim” on August 23, 1953. The couple made their home in Iowa City where along with raising her children she worked for many years at Oral B. They were avid Iowa Hawkeye Football fans, often attending away games in addition to those at Kinnick Stadium. She was a simple woman that liked to bake, work in her garden, walk her dogs, go camping, go bowling and basically most anything that involved moving. Was not one to sit still! Her family includes her three children, James “Jim “ Leiser (Sue); Lynn Martin, and Lisa Loventisky (Dale); 5 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren; and her brother, Dennis Dumond. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Jim; brothers Wesley and Charles Dumond; and son-in-law, Mitch Martin.
