Obituary of Howard W. Cole

Howard W. Cole, age 55 longtime resident of Iowa City died suddenly Monday, April 19, 2021., at home. Howard William Cole was born October 4, 1965, in Iowa City the son of Richard and Sandra (Lewis) Cole. He graduated from Iowa City West High School in 1984. He grew up learning the family business, operating heavy equipment and construction. “Howie” as all his family called him, lived each day for his family, especially his grandchildren, son and daughter-in-law. He never missed a day with them. He was so proud of his family. He was a rock for his parents, siblings, nieces and nephews. He loved them all so much and kept things fun with his jokes and funny nick-names. They all thought of him as their best friend. When something needed done, Howie was there to help. From remodeling a home for his parents to cooking advice, he was there. He had many roles, father, papa, son, brother, brother-in-law, uncle and friend. Howard loved spending time in Fort Myers Beach, Florida, traveling to Round Rock and Galveston Texas, with his family. If he wasn’t in one of those places, he was wearing a hat with one of the cities on it. Howard has a large family that starts with his mother, Sandy Cole; his son and wife, Tyler and Anais Cole; grandchildren, Emma, William and McKenzie; siblings, Ellen Cole-Amland (Randy), Eddie Cole (Cheri), Scott Cole (Shelly), Teresa Deatsch (Bob), Shane Lewis (Alicia), Jerry Cole (Jeanine), and Anita Penifold; many nieces, nephews and friends. Howard was preceded in death by his father, Richard. A time for family and friends to gather to remember Howard will be held from 4 to 7 pm Thursday, April 22, 2021, at Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service.
