We, along with many others, knew Russ as a true gentleman and good friend. We remember Russ as a good listener, e.g.if we hadn’t seen each other in a while, he was eager to ‘catch up’ on your life happenings and not focused on talking about his ‘news’ or events.
I, Duane, first met Russ in the early 1960’s when we were both single, enjoyed tennis, and often double-dated. I thought Russ was cool when he drove around in his new snappy 1970(?) Datsun 240Z coupe! It was the one he drove in several navigational rallies in the area.
In more recent years, when we became less energetic and those sporty activities slowed down, Jill and I enjoyed sharing a dinner out with Russ preceding an evening performance at the Riverside Theatre in Iowa City or at the Old Creamery Theatre in the Amana colonies. At the OxYoke Inn, we remember his favorite entrée was the wiener schnitzel dinner!
He will be missed and our sincere condolences to the family.
