Gloria Ann Dunlap
1931 - 2021
Condolences
Gloria was in the City High class of 1949. The class had numerous gathering during the years passing - some formal - some just a gathering when we took a trip to Iowa City. Gloria was always a wonderful host for the informal happenings and would gather the alumni still living in IC. We corresponded often during the 70+ years after our graduation. The obituary was sent to us by a friend still living in IC. She will be a willing and happppy God Helper.

A few years back, Gloria was an active and delightful member of our North Dodge water aerobics class, which is where I first met her. She wore an ever welcoming smile for everyone and prepared the most wonderful luncheons on occasion in her lovely home. Now she is at peace with her Lord and smiling at all her new and old heavenly friends.

John and I wish to extend our deepest sympathy to Gloria's entire family at this difficult time. John knew her far longer than I, but we do recall always seeing Gloria when we attended the Dane fall harvest dinner. Gloria seemed to always make it a point to say "hello" and spend time catching up on a person's life/activities during the previous year. We know she will be greatly missed by all, but just remember, your memories of Gloria are the most important thing you can hold onto and those memories belong to you, and you alone. May God grant each of you peace and comfort at this difficult time.
Every year at the family reunion in Iowa City you could count on one thing: Gloria would seek out every single member of the extended family for a big hug and kiss, followed by a genuine conversation catching up on the past year. Her vivacious spirit and hospitality will be deeply missed, but never forgotten. It is with a heavy heart the extended Jones family can’t all be there in person today, but we send our love and condolences to the entire Dunlap family. We take comfort in the fact that Gloria is resting at peace with family and we give thanks for all the love that Gloria brought to our lives.
Gloria was always a bright presence in our Audiovisual Center office. What I remember most was our constant joking and wisecracks and she always got in the last word.
One day Gloria took it upon herself to "spruce up" everyone's office by putting live plants on each desk -- and watering them every day. Now I didn't want a potted plant on my desk but each day I would find one there when I returned to my desk. I would "relocate" the plant to another room, day after day. Gloria wouldn't give up in her quest to beautify my office so I suspended a hanging plant (with silk flowers) in my window.
Each day Gloria would make the rounds with her watering can. When she walked into my office and began watering my hanging plant I said ,"Gloria, you don't have to water that. It's fake."
"That's OK", she replied, "there's no water in the can!"

.We send our love and heartfelt sympathy to Gloria's children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was so important to our family through all the years. She was my mother's first cousin. We always got together every Forth of July for a big family reunion. I will never forget her hospitality, big hugs and smile and everyone loved her cooking! It's an understatement to say she will be missed. We can take comfort in knowing she is free of troubles and is with her family in heaven.
From our first greetings at Dunlap Court during the 60’s at City High, through moves and changes in locations and jobs, to the more recent hugs and greetings on the east side of Iowa City we always knew there would be one constant during our return trips to Iowa City. That was a warm and loving welcome from Gloria. She always made us feel welcome and that we were an extended part of her loving family. While her passing makes us sad our thoughts are quickly replaced with fond memories of her graciousness, warmth, and hospitality. We treasure those memories and wish to share our condolences with her family.
