Obituary of Dorothy M. Carney

Dorothy M. Carney, age 84, passed away July 17, 2021 at her home in Iowa City, Iowa. Dorothy's family will receive guests for visitation at Gay and Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service on Saturday, July 24th from 1-4 pm. Dorothy was born March 16, 1937 in Iron River, Wisconsin, the daughter of Roy and Gladys (Martelle) Berg. Dorothy was a strong spirit who loved her family and friends. When she wasn’t working at the University Hospital and Clinics, she was often found playing bingo or slots. She loved to spend time outdoors camping and fishing with her family. She had artistic talent and enjoyed knitting. You could often see her work at the various fairs around the Johnson and Cedar counties. She was a good woman and will be missed by all who knew her. Surviving Dorothy are her cherished children, Timothy Carney, Terry (Janice) Carney, Walter “Moose” Carney Jr., Connie (Mike) Prushe and Kevin Carney; nine grandchildren and twenty four great grandchildren; siblings, Harry (Ellen) Berg, Evelyn (the late Larry) Beaver, Clarence (Karen) Berg and Tom (Cindi) Berg; and sister-in-law, Arlene Berg. Sadly, Dorothy is preceded in death by her husband, Walter Dwane Carney Sr.; siblings, Roy (Marilyn) Berg and Gilbert Berg; and parents, Roy and Gladys Berg. Memorial contributions are suggested to either Dorothy's family, or the Johnson or Cedar county animal shelters.
