Obituary of Norma Jean Bartels
Norma Jean Bartels, a longtime resident of the Coralville area, passed away on Saturday, November 6, 2021, at age 95. Norma Jean Prather was born to Michael and Inez (Heath) Prather in Spencer, Iowa on July 1, 1926. On July 28, 1946, she married Arnold "Arnie" Bartels and soon after the couple moved to Coralville. There they raised a family together and she supported Arnie in their family construction business. Norma was very social and held memberships at the Coralville American Legion Auxiliary, the Eagles Club, the Moose Lodge and was a part of numerous bowling leagues over the years. Norma was an avid Iowa Hawkeye fan and you could often find her and Arnie tailgating at Kinnick stadium. She became a runner later in life and participated in many road races throughout Iowa. Upon retirement, Norma and Arnie enjoyed many winters in their motor home in Mission, Texas where they met many other retirees that they enjoyed playing cards with. She was crazy for anything with ladybugs, cardinals or Hawkeyes, but most important to her was spending time with her family and loved ones. Norma will be greatly missed by her three sons, Max (Kathy), Scott (Mia) and Steve (Judi); grandchildren, Michelle Rozell (Edward), Max Bartels Jr. (Amy), Amy Bartels, Michael Bartels, Amanda Bartels, Jonathon Bevans (Shelly), Kasie Haskins (Tyson), and Joseph Mitch Bevans (Jamie); great-grandchildren, Savannah Rozell, Sofia Rozell, Shelby Bartels, Tyler Bartels, Arianna Johnson, and Dustin Bevans. Norma was preceded in death by and will be happy to reunite with her parents, her husband Arnie, her daughter Barbara Olson, 6 brothers and 2 sisters. Graveside services will be held at 10am Saturday, November 13 at Oak Hill Cemetery in Coralville.
