Richard M. "Dick" Villhauer
1938 - 2021
Condolences
I met Dick in June 1968 when I started as an electrician's helper at Shay Electric. Fresh out of high school, I didn't know anything about electricians' work. Lucky for me, I worked with a lot of nice guys at Shay Electric. Dick was one of the very best. He worked hard, he taught me a lot, he was patient and he was fun to be around. We worked a lot of hours together that summer, on the renovation of the Hotel Jefferson for the University of Iowa. It seemed like Dick was always in a good mood. He had a smile on his face and something funny to say.
I have a lot of respect for Dick, he was a skillful electrician and he was a hard worker. With Dick, we worked hard, got a lot done and we had a good time working together. Dick really set the tone. He was nice to everyone. He was a genuinely nice guy. I have a lot of respect for Dick. I was lucky to know Dick and to work with him. I have fond memories of Dick and I am a better person having known him. You have my deepest sympathies on your loss of such a fine person.

I will never forget Santa Claus coming to see all the little Poulsen kids, then the Poulsen kids, kids and so on! Everything he did was with a smile and I will never forget what a great man he was. Rest in Peace Dick. ❤️

Kathy, I'm so sorry to hear of Dick's passing. He was such a great guy! Reminded me of Cy in so many ways! Keep your memories close. They will help.
Dick, who we also called Max, was a classmate at City High. As his obit said always had a smile and fun to be around. Great sense of humor. I enjoyed seeing him at the reunions. I remember a big ole black 4 door Buick that he and brother JIM drove. It looked like something out of a “gangster” movie. Thanks for the memories Max. May you Rest In Peace. Ritt 57

My Wife, Michele, were good friends with Dick. WHAT a guy! He came out of Chute 1 everyday. We often called him the Mayor of East Iowa City. Generous, friendly, knowledgeable, honest, hard-working, for starters. We will miss our friend Dick. Our condolences to the Family.

Dick was a good friend and worked with me as my electrical contractor many times when I had my construction business back in the 80's. More recently I would stop and visit when he worked in the produce department at Hy Vee. So sorry for your loss and he will be missed.
Dick was a lovely human being. So kind to everyone and thought of others first. He will be missed by many here ‘cause he touched so many people, but he is receiving his Heavenly reward. Sleep with the angels…
Dick got me started as an electrician in Iowa City, I worked with him for 18 years. During that time we created and shared a lot of memories I’ll have the rest of my life. Thanks for everything Dick!
Dick was an incredible man with the kindest of hearts. He was my fraternal brother, but he was also my friend. Seeing him would always give me a smile and bring me joy. I am sorry for his passing and for your loss.
An extraordinary man and always positive brother has started his journey to the lodge of the eternal light above. Dick will make that lodge brighter with his warm personality, his humor, his wisdom, and sensitivity. Rest well brother Dick.
On behalf of my family, our warmest condolences to the Villhauer family.

I am so sorry to hear of the passing of Dick! He has always been so special in my life. I have a lot of good memories of him riding his 3 wheeler through Rochester when we still had the Labor Day Celebrations. I can't believe they never tipped them over. He will be greatly missed. Thinking of all of his family.
