Obituary of Harlan Nost

Harlan L. Nost, age 88, former longtime area car salesman and head custodian at Lucas School, died Friday, December 10, 2021. Harlan Lloyd Nost, born August 30, 1933, to Charles Harold and Lena Mary (Snavely) Nost in Iowa City, Iowa. Harlan married Marilyn Marie Vrchoticky on November 6, 1955. He did a stint with the Iowa National Guard. Following that he worked at Doc’s Grocery, local car dealerships and retired from Lucas Elementary School as their head custodian. He loved cars and bought and sold many. He was a member of a camping club and he also liked writing poetry. Harlan had many friends & acquaintances. He was always helping people. He loved his family and was quite the jokester. He always had a joke or story to tell. He loved animals and nature. Harlan was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, and his brother, Harold Marvin Nost, and sister, Mary Irene (Nost) Ford. Survived by his children Debra (Tylee) Griffis, Lloyd Nost and Diane Buchmayer and his longtime lady friend, Janice Hall. Grandchildren, Shanna Tylee, Kiersten Bassett, Austin Buchmayer, Kelsey Lynn Alvarado, Justin Nost and Allen Nost. Great Grandchildren Devin Tylee, Kaden Bassett, Talan Bassett & Kaelynn Bassett.
