Obituary of Ed Allgood

Edward M. Allgood, age 77 of Iowa City, died Sunday, February 6, 2022, at The University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics. Edward Max Allgood was born January 26, 1945, in Ottumwa, Iowa, the son of Neoland Max and Hazel Violet (Chapman) Allgood. He graduated from English Valley High School with the Class of 1963, and then attended college in McPherson, Kansas. On October 3, 1965, he married Jean Kauzlerich in Ottumwa, Iowa. Edward had a number of jobs before beginning a career with Metropolitan Life, which he did for many years, until joining The University of Iowa, retiring in 2010. Edward enjoyed much in his lifetime, often leading to new friendships. He was in Barbershop Chorus, BIC (Bicyclists of Iowa City), Iowa City Bird Club, Iowa Ornithologists’ Union, member of both Gloria Dei Lutheran Church and later Zion Lutheran Church, volunteered at Crowded Closet, NAMI, Compeer, and was also very much an environmentalist. But most important to Ed, was his family and all that they did together. He so enjoyed attending his sons’and later grandsons’ school activities, races, concerts and games. He cherished the family camping, biking and later birding trips throughout the United States and Canada. After retirement, he appreciated sharing the tennis courts with Jean and their friends. His family includes his wife, Jean; their two sons, Mark Allgood and Alan Allgood and his wife, Chloe; grandsons Doak and Lucia; sister, Ann Popham, and, of course, all the dogs and cats they had throughout the years. A gathering time for family and friends will be held from 11am to 1pm Sunday, February 20, at Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Services with words shared from Reverend Jennifer Lutz beginning at 12:30 pm. (Attendees will be expected to wear a mask and they will be provided). In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made in Ed’s memory to NAMI of Johnson County.
