Obituary of Nancy D. Petersen

Nancy Darlyne (Comings) Petersen passed away peacefully on February 9, 2022 in Iowa City, IA. She was born July 10, 1938 to Don and Lillian Comings in Great Falls, Montana. Nancy graduated from Great Falls High School in 1956 and earned a diploma from the Columbus School of Nursing in 1959. On May 18, 1962, she married Robert (Pete) Petersen, Jr, an ironworker, and they spent many years traveling across the United States for his work. They settled on a farm near Versailles, MO in the 1970s and then retired to Lake Havasu City, AZ in the early 2000s. She moved to Iowa City in 2019 to be closer to family. While living in Missouri and managing the farm, Nancy served on the Board of Directors for the Royal Theater and performed in numerous plays and musicals. She was also an animal lover and was involved in early efforts to build an animal shelter that would serve the Morgan County area. She enjoyed traveling, playing cards, reading and, in her younger years, dancing the jitterbug. Nancy is survived by her son Robert (Katie) Petersen III of Traverse City, MI; daughter Brandi (Marc) Janssen of Solon, IA; her grandchildren Maggie, Derek, Maia and Lucy, and many other friends and family members. She was preceded in death by her husband of 42 years, Robert, and their daughter, Vickie Jo. Nancy will be buried next to Robert in Missouri and a family memorial service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to your local animal shelter.
