Richard and I want to extend our condolences in the passing of Martha. I look back with fond memories with Martha. She taught my brother and me in the country school and have a good county school picture of her sitting at her desk with her students around here. I remember Martha as a kind, caring person.
Mel and family:
I am so sorry to learn of Martha's passing. I remember when she taught my children at Penn Elementary as well as the memories with my sister-in-law Mary. Thoughts and prayers from the Bollinger family. Evelyn Bollinger
Aunt Martha's passion for and joy of teaching greatly influenced me to pursue a teaching career. Fifty-six years teaching is the mark of great dedication and is a rare accomplishment. I thank her for her inspiration, encouragement, council, and support of me in my early years of teaching.
Our heart-felt sympathy to Uncle Mel, cousins Karen and Barb and her family.
My grandmother was such a blessing. She was elegant, intelligent, and the definition of “classy”. She was fierce with her dedication to her faith, her family, and towards the thousands of those that she touched during her 56 years in education as a teacher. Of all the lessons that she taught (not only me, but to everyone she touched), the most important of those lessons was “take time to smell the flowers, because time passes in a blink of an eye”.
Enjoy the little things, because in the end we realize that the little things are actually the big things…
You are so loved, and will be so missed.
So sad to hear of the passing of this lovely lady! Mom, (Mary) you and your family are all in my thoughts and prayers!
May all the happy memories bring you comfort during this difficult time . Share those memories as you gather to celebrate her life. Thinking of you in your sorrow and wishing you strength in the days ahead. Art and Coleen Chipman
So sorry to hear about your loss. Your family is in our thoughts and prayers. Teresa Seydel Walker family
Uncle Mel & Cousins Barb and Karen -
My deepest condolences on Aunt Martha’s passing. I have many fond memories of growing up with Aunt Martha and Uncle Mel just three houses down the street (and dropping in frequently to visit), as well as all the fun summer trips our families took out West. I’m hopeful that your own personal memories of Aunt Martha as a wife or mother provide you with a lifetime of joy and strengthen and uplift you during this difficult time. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your families.

In memory of my Big Sister -
Remembering all the sisterly chats we enjoyed on the road to Mt. Pleasant, Ottumwa, and Kirksville, Missouri. With love and fond memories always
Lorraine
I will forever remember Mrs. Schemmel as my first grade teacher at Penn Elementary in North Liberty. What a joy that later in life I would reconnect with her (and Mel!) when they moved in to the place where I work. She was a lovely lady and will be missed. (from Jami: Front Desk at Grand Living)
