Obituary of Christopher Lydell Farrar
Christopher L. “Chris” Farrar, age 53 died Thursday, April 21, 2022, at his home surrounded by his family under the compassionate care of Iowa City Hospice. Christopher Lydell Farrar was born January 3, 1969, in Bronx, New York. Through a church program in the Bronx he was able to leave New York to live with the Slabaugh family in Kalona. Here he went to high school at IMS, running cross country and track & field which won the 1987 state title. Chris graduated IMS in 1989. Following high school, he attended college and began a career as a nursing assistant at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics. He worked in the anesthesia and emergency room departments and later for the DeGowin Blood Center. Chris was known to be “A Really Good Stick” noting his abilities for blood draws. Chris enjoyed his life, especially when it came to cooking and grilling, his love of motorcycles and in his mother’s dying days, he was thankful that he could be by her bedside caring for her from his skill in the hospital. His family includes his daughter, Alivia Lydell Nelson; grandchildren, Gavin, Jude, and Dylan; a brother, Freddy. No public services are planned, Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service is in charge of his arrangements.
