Dear Madeline,
I am so sorry to hear about your loss!
It should be so difficult to lose a son at such a young age.
I wish you strength and may his light shine through the beautiful memories he shares with his close ones!

Madeline, Marc and Michael - I hoped to come in person today but find this non-Covid virus preventing me from doing so. I was so very sorry to learn of Arthur's death. His fire burned brightly with his curiosity and energy to learn and question some more. You, as parents, were gentle advocates whose love for, and understanding of Arthur guided your directions and support for him. Your collaborative approach in working with school staff was a wonderful partnership, for which I am grateful. I am glad to learn that Arthur was living his best life with his curiosity and exploration in his chosen field going well. That said, I am so very sorry for your loss and the hole this leaves in your lives. May Arthur's light continue to shine through the precious memories you have to share in the years ahead.
Blessings,
Deb Wretman
I am so very saddened to know about Arthur. I have many wonderful memories of our time together at Shimek. He always came to class with joy and energy, jumping into all of our investigations with great questions and enthusiasm! He loved taking care of the bearded dragon, “Lizzy” when Mrs. K first got her and after our class adopted her when she got a bit too large and scary for Mrs.K. Another time he wrote a letter to the Crayola company because he was fascinated with their special chalk formula that ensured the dust fell down instead of scattering. I will always cherish Arthur’s humor, sensitivity, and commitment to justice.
Dear Madeline, Marc, and Michael
We remember Arthur well from our time in Iowa City when Arthur was in his early and late teens. We saw him grow up to become a considerate young man under the loving guidance and limitless dedication of his parents, Madeline and Marc.
We remember the cooling summer afternoons during get-togethers with his family and their laboratory members, the water balloon fights and the tug of war, which Arthur loved so much, at the lovely home Madeline and Marc provided for their family and friends.
We remember learning from Madeline how Arthur was progressing over the years into adulthood. We were happy to know that Arthur was actively and passionately pursuing a career in Anthropology at the University of Iowa and beyond but deeply saddened to learn of his sudden unexpected passing in the middle of this beautiful young man’s young adulthood. We were grateful for the short time we had to get to know Arthur in his childhood.
We can only imagine the full depth of the pain the tragedy of Arthur’s sudden passing his family and friends are experiencing. Our warm thoughts of comforting embrace and sympathy go out to his family, his mother Madeline, his father Marc, and his brother Michael. The loss is surely deep and hard to bear.

Madeline, Marc, and Michael:
I did not know Arthur except from conversations with you, his family. Because I know you, I know he must have been kind and considerate with a gentle soul. I'm positive he knew how much you loved him. I know this because these words also describe each of you. You are and will always be a wonderful family.
Arthur will stay in your heart forever and your memories with him will give you peace as time goes on.
I am so sorry for your loss and the undescribable pain you are feeling.

Dear Marc and Madeline,
I was shocked and saddened by this news. I knew Arthur through his work with Drew Kitchen in the Department of Anthropology. He was indeed a remarkable young man of whom you can be very proud. Although young, he did have an impact on many people I know. It is very sad for all of us, and especially for you, that he is no longer with us.

Marc and Madeline, I am so sorry for this awful loss. Both of you are in my thoughts. -Rob
