Sgt. Williams was my favorite sergeant to get on the phone whenever I called CPD. He was always kind, patient, informative and funny. Sgt. Williams is a credit to the department, the City of Coralville, and the law enforcement profession as a whole.
Dear Kim and family~
I’m artist Karen Risius who John commissioned to do your dog portraits of Muffy. I was shocked and saddened to hear of his sudden passing. It doesn’t seem like it’s been almost two years since we were at Hobby Lobby selecting frames for the portraits. It was a pleasure knowing him. I will always think of you on our mutual December 2nd birthday. My prayers for you and your family.
My deepest sympathy to the family for your loss
From one police officer's wife to another I nod to you. There are no words just compassion and understanding on your journey. Continue to lean on our group my friend. We are here for you.
Sweet Sarah and Family,
I never got to meet your dad, but everything I have heard about him proves what a dedicated person he was at work, in his community, and at home. You were my favorite one of my daughter's friends because you were respectful and always were a joy to talk to. I am guessing you inherited some of those great qualities from your dad. Someday soon you will be able to smile again and remember the good times you had as a family with your dad. Until then, I am sending huge hugs and will be thinking of you and your family during these next few difficult days.
Williams Family-
You are in our prayers during this difficult time. John was such a nice man, and we've heard a lot from Elsa about what an amazing police officer and grandpa he was.
Sincerely,
The Dalmasso Family (Heritage)
As brothers and sisters in law enforcement, we are greatly saddened by the loss of our brother, Sergeant John Williams, while he was on patrol. Our understanding is that Sergeant Williams always put the life and safety of others before himself. “Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called Sons of God” (Matthew 5:9).
Kim and family, we are sadden by this news. John was such a loving person who always had a smile to give! He will be missed. So happy we got to know him up in Brooking South Dakota when he was with Hy-Vee. And then again in Coralville while he was a police officer. What a dedicated father, husband and policemen. Prayers

John Williams was a very dedicated public servant. For more than 28 years he provided the highest levels of dedication and commitment to the citizens of Coralville. Those who knew John, knew that he loved his family, his community, and his job as a police sergeant. I am comforted knowing that John died doing what he loved, serving his community. I hope that his family will find peace, comfort, and strength knowing that John died a hero and that he will leave a lasting legacy that will carry on for future generations in both his personal and police families.
Thoughts and prayers to the whole Williams family. Although I did not personally know John or the rest of his family, I got to know his son Ben in college and for him to raise such a wonderful man is just a testament to him. Ben and Lauren, please let me know if you need anything.
Kim we were so shocked and sadden when hearing of John passing away. He always stopped and visited with us when we saw him on the paper route in Coralville so many years ago. He was such a great guy. You nd the family are in our prayers.
Kim and family I am so deeply saddened by this news and will keep you and your family in my thoughts and prayers! John was one of the good guys and he will be missed by all who had the chance of meeting him!

Kim, all the family, and all his fellow co-workers sorry for your loss. You will all be in our prayers. Keep all the good memories in your hearts forever. I had the opportunity to work with John a few times while I was a Johnson County Reserve Deputy. John was a great man, father and officer. God Bless you all. R.I.P. John.
Thoughts & Prayers to the Williams family.
We sure will miss seeing John mowing his beautiful yard like clockwork. And he was so thoughtful on snowy days continuing up the sidewalk to snowblow our sidewalk as well! We will miss our over the fence conversations as we interrupted his diligent yard maintenance. The Locher family will truly miss the wonderful neighbor we had in John!
Mrs. Kimberly Williams and family, my deepest sympathy and condolences is with you and your family. Officer Williams was such a kind, funny and warm spirited individual and he will definitely be missed. My prayers and thoughts are with you all during this rough time. I pray for peace, strength and comfort for each of you and may God Bless You All!

Sadness throughout Coralville at this time. We have lost a FINE MAN. The LORD needs JOHN is our thought. HE got a GREAT MAN. MY condolences to John's Family, Friends, and to the Coralville PD. Such a loss. We shall forever be in 'thanks' as friends and Coralville citizens for knowing the MAN, and for having him protect us when he was on duty. John, your travels here are finished, your next travels are known but to God.
We first met John and Kim in Grinnell when we were neighbors. John always had a smile. He had a great attitude about life and even then his focus was on becoming a police officer. Jane and I offer our condolences to Kim and his family.
