Obituary of Charles "Chuck" A. Forman Jr.

Charles “Chuck” A. Forman Jr. passed away at Briarwood Health Care Center in Iowa City, Iowa. He was 82 years old. A funeral service for Chuck will be held on Thursday, July 21st, at 11:00am at Gay and Ciha Funeral and Cremation Services (2720 Muscatine Ave., Iowa City). A visitation will be held on Wednesday, July 20th, 4-7pm, also at Gay and Ciha Funeral and Cremation Services. Chuck will be laid to rest at Oak Hill Cemetery in Coralville, Iowa. Chuck was born August 8th 1939 in Toledo, Ohio. He is the son of Mary and Charles A. Forman Sr. He attended schools in Coralville and Iowa City. On December 20th, 1958, Chuck married the love of his life, Elizabeth “Betty” Carlton, at St. Patrick’s Church in Iowa City. He made his career at the University of Iowa in the Microbiology department. After 43 years, he retired in 2001. Chuck also worked many side jobs to finance his primary hobby of drag racing, including Paglia’s Pizza, Holiday Shell, and Holiday Wrecker. Chuck’s greatest joy was to spend time with his family and friends. He never missed an activity or event that his grandchildren participated in, and his grandkids looked forward to seeing him in the stands with his camera in his hands. Every year Chuck looked forward to going to the World Series of Drag Racing in Cordova, a passion he shared with many in his life. Chuck was a collector of all things automobiles and you would never find him without one of his hats. Chuck’s is survived by his beloved wife of 63 years, Betty; children Kris (Mark) Petersen of Tiffin, Kathy (Rick) Lee of North Liberty, and Steve (Panaila) Forman of Huntsville Alabama; grandchildren Heather Kelly, Elizabeth Petersen (Tanner Grier), Rachel Petersen, Jayson Petersen, Joe (Chelsie) Mooney, Shelly (Ben) Sweeting, Ricky Lee, Lindsey Lee, Timmy Lee (Mady Ganka), Emily Lee (Cary Petersen ), Tim Bollinger, Robert (Whitney) Forman; great-grandchildren Danyeal, Dayvon, Dayshia, Archer, Thacher, Scarlette, Ireylnn, Caiden, Landen, Elliot, Brooklyn, Elija, Micah and Nico; great-great grandchildren Jamari and Denver; sisters Mary (late Paul) Burgess and Angie (Justin) Walker and brother Ray (Myra) Forman. Sadly, Chuck is preceded in death by his son, Charles A. Forman III and siblings Rita Orr and Tess Heumphreus. Memorial contributions can be made in Chuck’s memory. A memorial fund will be established at a later time. Chuck’s family would like to extend many thanks and love to the staff of Briarwood Health Care Center for the care and compassion they showed Chuck and his family. Special thanks to Harry Dunlap for all his technological expertise and support that he gave Chuck over the years.
