Obituary of Gloria Gomez
Maryanne Gloria Gomez of Coralville Iowa passed away on Friday, September 16th at the age of 60.
Born in her childhood home on December 2nd 1961, in Las Vegas New Mexico, Gloria wasn’t expected to live more than a few weeks. Beating the odds then, as she had done throughout her life, she never let anything get in her way and was determined to live life the best she could. She knew what she wanted and when she got something in her head, she was determined to accomplish it. She could be a bit of a pistol when there was something she didn’t like and she would make it known, which was a good thing because she never left you guessing.
Gloria began services with Systems in 1985 and left a lasting impression on everyone who was lucky enough to get to know her over these last 37 years.
She loved to shop and was a bit of a fashionista. She enjoyed watching TV, and was a huge fan of the shows “Dark Shadows” and “The Walking Dead.” She looked forward to the ES Halloween party every year and loved to dress in costume. She enjoyed holidays with family, playing games on her tablet, but one of the things that brought Gloria the most joy, aside from her family and friends, was her art work.
Gloria’s love and passion for art knew no bounds. She was the driving force in starting “Artists at SUI.” She was passionate and dedicated to her art and tried any and every medium she could get her hands on. From ceramics, paint, colored pencils, and markers, to collage, pom poms and googly eyes. She would draw or paint the most interesting and beautiful images. When she would create a new creature or painting, she’d giggle in delight. Her artwork had a glow about it, just like she did. Her excitement for art shows and displaying her work was something she took great pride in.
She had a delightful laugh, warm smile and easy going way about her. Gloria’s love and caring spirit was experienced by all who had the pleasure of knowing her.
She will be missed tremendously and we all were blessed to have been a part of her life.
She is preceded in death by her father John Lyvers, brothers Rodney, Mark, and John Lyvers II.
She is survived by her loving mother Dina Lyvers of Iowa City; brother, Matthew (Tami) Lyvers of North Liberty as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Systems Unlimited of Iowa City for the wonderful work they provide for those with disabilities and mental health needs.
A time for family and friends to gather to celebrate Maryanne’s life will be held from 4 to 6 pm Monday, October 10, 2022, at Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service.
