Obituary of Ruth I. Hartman
Ruth Irene (Johnson) Hartman, 97, of Iowa City, died Monday, April 4, 2016, at Oaknoll Retirement Residence.
Mrs. Hartman was born in Washington, IA, on June 13, 1918, to John and Matilda (Nelson) Johnson. She graduated from the Washington High School and taught in Washington County Rural Schools.
She married Edwin M. Hartman on April 6, 1942. He preceded her in death on December 5, 1993. For many years they lived in Arizona where she was a homemaker, hospital volunteer, and a member of Mt. Zion Lutheran Church in Tucson, AZ. She moved to Oaknoll Retirement Home in Iowa City in 2001.
Survivors include two nieces, Marjorie Soethout of Omaha, NE and Marilyn Marclay of West Des Moines, IA; three nephews, Charles Brinning of Richland, IA, Donald Brinning of Brighton, IA, and Donald Johnson of Winfield, IA, and several grand-nieces and grand-nephews.
Ruth was preceded in death by her parents, husband, three sisters, Grace Ferns, Mabel Johnson, and Florence Brinning, three brothers, Frank, Oscar and Walter (Pat) Johnson, two nieces, Rita Brinning and Virginia Derwin and two nephews, John Lee and Richard Johnson.
